About a 40 minute drive from Pickering is Castle Howard set in the Howardian Hills an area of outstanding natural beauty. The house and gardens are stunning and it's perfect for a family day out as it has the most fantastic adventure playground.
The house itself has been used in many film and TV productions, the latest of which was the Netflix series Bridgerton. There's also a good cafe and shop. Check out their website for current events as they often have quite a lot going on: https://www.castlehoward.co.uk/

About a 40 minute drive from Pickering is Castle Howard set in the Howardian Hills an area of outstanding natural beauty. The house and gardens are stunning and it's perfect for a family day out as it has the most fantastic adventure playground.

A must visit! This garden is beautiful! I especially enjoy watching the swift’s dip their chests in the water feature. The cafe here is great and serves tasty food offering unique dishes you won’t find anywhere else.

The medieval walled city of York is a must. It’s packed full of history with medieval streets and the magnificent York Minster. There’s a vast array of shops, pubs, cafes, bars and restaurants. Try the Bluebird bakery just off the shambles for great bread and cakes. Go early to avoid disappointment.

Travel back in time to the second world war. Housed in a former prisoner of war camp the huts that made up this camp now have an immersive experience in each one and each with a different theme. Well worth a visit.

I really recommend this place for the beautiful Capability Brown parkland and stunning walled garden. There’s also a great cafe for tea and cake! Yum!

Whether you're into cycling or not this is a good drive out. There's a lovely cafe and the scenery is spectacular. There's also many walks to enjoy although it's lots of hill walking but you can indulge on cake at the cafe afterwards.
