After a frustratingly slow tour with a larger group we were so thrilled to have Jamal guide us thru the expansive labyrinth that is the old Medina of Fes. Informative, of course, but also imbued with humor, trivia and a perspective you can only get from someone who grew up there. He was kind enough to meet us at our hotel and gave us great directions to get back. Now if you haven’t experienced the Medina- this will mean little- but once you have, you’ll appreciate how great that was too. Even tho it was a Friday and a lot of places were closed, he was still able to convey and deliver the energy, beauty and intentional design of this special place. Also- If you’re a music fan, don’t miss asking him for some recommendations while you’re with him! Shukran Jamal!

This afternoon with Elhadi was truly one of the most satisfying and rewarding experiences either of us had enjoyed in a considerable lifetime of travel to more than 100 countries. Of course we covered all of the major sights in Fes, but the depth and sophistication of the explanations coupled with Elhadi’s own grace, knowledge, humor, friendship, warmth and obvious intelligence made this into a really special afternoon and a powerful vacation memory. From explaining Islamic history to helping us with some purchases (at our request, not his), his hospitality made Fes and indeed all of Morocco come alive for us. If you have a chance to take this tour, do it - you’ll be very happy that you did!
