My husband and I had such a lovely time! It was not only a unique experience, but incredibly fun and educational as well.

We really enjoyed learning about the history of Toraya (the shop), its owner and wagashi master, as well as the art of wagashi itself — from traditional to contemporary styles, and the seasonal significances in each creation. This introduction made the hands-on wagashi-making experience even more meaningful. We finished the evening with a greater appreciation for these beautiful (and delicious) treats!

It’s such a unique experience to be able to learn and make the wagashi with the master and learn different techniques! You also get to eat your creations after, and our hosts were very knowledgeable and super friendly and nice!

We all had such a great time at this experience both kids and adults. The teaching was wonderful and great to learn about this part of Japanese culture - could not fault. Fun for the whole family, our favourite experience yet - please make sure you leave enough time for the train, it is quite a hike out to Nara from Kyoto and you need an additional ticket to your Suica / IC card. Five stars ! 🌟
