Bulelani was an exceptional person with whom to explore Langa. He has an informal, easy and attentive manner that made him feel like a friend as he walked us through the streets of the township. His friendliness is infectious and he seemed to know everyone, stopping to greet them while sharing stories of life in the community. We visited several small businesses —an art gallery, a cafe, a community garden, a bicycle food delivery service, an herbal healer. I felt safe at all times and kindly received by the many people with whom we stopped to chat. Although I was never asked, I do wish I’d had a little currency on me to support some of these community businesses.
A downpour cut our walk short but the afternoon with Bulelani will remain a highlight of my visit.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to South Africa! It is so nice to get an insider’s perspective and meet people living in the Langa township. We met many entrepreneurs who explained their businesses, and those who are involved in the community center, making pottery, recycled clothes, jewelry etc. and we had a great lunch at Jordan’s. Bulelani was a knowledgeable, friendly host who is doing a great job promoting tourism in his neighborhood. Highly recommend!
