Makiko was an incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind guide. She took a genuine interest in what we found worthwhile and tailored the experience to our interests. This was easily the best way to start our time in Tokyo! We came away with a deeper understanding of Japan’s history, traditions, and culture, which has really set the foundation for the rest of our trip. My friend and I highly recommend Makiko to anyone visiting Tokyo.

This is a very beautiful and interesting experience for anybody who loves flowers or flower arranging. I have previously attended a novice flower arranging course in Europe and to learn the differences of the ikebana style and philosophy from an expert is a privilege. It was a small group allowing for personal connection and one on one advice. Visiting the flower store and selecting my own flowers was especially satisfying and has made me confident in continuing ikebana at home.

I really enjoyed this experience and my time with Makiko. She is so knowledgeable about the Edo period in Japan and Waka poetry, that I was not only able to appreciate the beauty of the garden and temples we visited, but also gained a deep understanding and connection to the people of that time. I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in Japanese history, learning about Buddhism and Shintoism, and how this relates to modern Japan and even your own life!

I very much enjoyed this experience who allowed me to learn a lot more about Japanese culture, history, and art forms - it was actually the first time I was told about waka poetry and it allowed me to delve deeper into it after this.
Makiko is a greatly knowledgeable and patient host so this visit is not mere sightseeing (even if the sights are beautiful !) but also the perfect occasion to develop a deeper understanding.
