Quiet restaurants are hard to come by in SF, but Helmand Palace always has a table available despite being outrageously delicious. Be sure to try the Aushak.

Afghani cuisine. Thank: middle eastern kebab meets indian curry with lots of flavor but not spice. Excellent food and service. Definitely get a side dish of Kadu (sautéed pumpkin in yogurt sauce).
