Just a 90 minute drive east from Portland, historic and stunningly beautiful Timberline Lodge offers mountain vistas, hikes and restaurants. A must do activity.

Go and check out one of the locations where they filmed "The Shining" and take in some of the local history. Their restaurant is top rate and you get a beautiful up close view of the mountain.

One of the few 'touristy' places that's TOTALLY worth being a tourist for. The Shining was filmed at Timberline Lodge, but the real reason to go is to see this magnificent lodge built during the WPA. The grand, wooden structure, at 6000 ft. above sea level, is beautiful as is the multi-mountain vista from the deck, not to mention being up-close and personal with Mt. Hood. (elev. 11,250). Lots of great hiking in every direction and great skiing in the winter. An hour and 1/2 from Portland makes it a very doable day trip.
