Teos Antik Kenti uluslararası arkeoloji literatürü içersinde çok değinilen, hakkında ulusal ve uluslararası yayın bulunan sayılı antik kentlerden biridir. Sığacık’a yürüme mesafesinde deniz kenarında bulunan Teos bundan 3 bin yıl öncesine kadar Kuzey İon’un başkenti konumundaydı. Kurucusu Dioysos’un oğlu Athames olarak bilinir. Teos’un antik dönemde mimari alan ve ticarette önemli bir yeri vardır. Teos, bir dönem İon şehrinden huzursuzluk yarattıkları ileri sürülerek kovulan sanatçılara kapılarını açmış, tarihte ilk kez Sanatçılar Birliği’nin kurulduğu bir kent olmuştur. Uzun yıllar Teos, bir sanat kenti olarak kalmış ve antik çağın önemli filozof ve sanatçılarından şairler, Anakreon, Antimakhos, Epikuros, Nausiphanes, Apellikon ve tarihçi Hekataios Teos’ta yaşamıştır.
