The Gambrinus Brewery is on Elizabeth Street and was built in 1912 by architect Nicolas Pissiota, of Macedonian-Roman origin, and his cousin, Argir Culina. The luxurious six-storey building was later named Cismigiu Hotel. Caragiale moved with his beer on the ground floor of the hotel. In 1940, the building was demolished. Over a year, the site was reopened by a certain Naumescu, at the intersection of Regina Elisabeta Boulevard and Brezoianu Street, on the site of the former Circ Sidoli. He had the same logo: Gambrinus.
