There is an easy round walk from the cottage that takes you to this stunning waterfall. Heading out of the cottage, turn left onto Blue Hill Road and continue up the lane onto the footpath leading up the hill. The track takes you above Ambleside and offers beautiful views of the village. Keep going until you get to a gate straight ahead of you with a stone staircase, which leads to the top of Wansfell, on your right. Go through the gate and turn left down the hill towards the village onto Stockgyll Road. There is a narrow path on your right, keep a look out as it’s easily missed, which takes you through a wrought iron turnstile and into Stockgyll park, carry on and you will come to the waterfall. ~From here you can walk down through the park to the village and back to the cottage . The round walk takes around 30-40 minutes.

Stock Ghyll features a famous waterfall once written about by the poet John Keats. The ghyll once powered the bobbin mills for the Lancashire cotton trade. There is a circular walk beginning at the southern entrance which takes you via a signposted path up to the viewing platforms and over the top of the falls, before descending again. There is a disabled access point to the top viewing platform. Stock Ghyll is also a gateway to Wansfell Pike and Troutbeck.
