The omakase at Royal Sushi is a near impossible reservation, but the izakaya in the front of the building is a walk in only bar and restaurant that serves some of the best fish in the region. Totally casual and energetic.

The first truly focused sushi bar in Philadelphia, Royal Sushi features an 18 piece nigirizushi omakase prepared by Chef Owner Jesse Ito. Jesse trained under his father, Masaharu at their previous restaurant--Fuji. Masaharu opened Fuji in 1979 and created a Japanese establishment known throughout the area. In 2016 the Ito's sold Fuji to open Royal Izakaya with bar owners Dave Frank and Stephen Simons, creating one of the most authentic izakaya and sushi experiences in Philadelphia. The sushi bar lays hidden in the back of the izakaya. Find the red lantern on 2nd street, enter the blue door, and pass the noren curtains in the back to find this hidden sushi oasis.

Our favorite izakaya in Philly. Lots of delicious Japanese small plates and large sake and Japanese beer selection! Only open at night but serves food til 1am. There's no signage, just look for the red lantern outside!
