There is this dramatic scene in the tamil bloc buster “Thenali”. The heroine Jothika throws her cap in this valley eagerly waiting for the cap to return. In the next scene, you see the cap does return, but along with it comes our handsome hero Kamalhassan. He emerges from the depth carrying the cap on his head. There is little bit of physics in the works. Differential density, upward wind pressure all acting to put your cap back in your hands. It is called as “thoppi vesum paarai” in Tamil language, this implies “throwing cap rock”. Found 17kms away from kodaikanal town focus, it is an excellent scenic area. The valley views from the top are stunning. Greenery is in abundance. Wear good footwear on this trip. It’s wet around Kodai and the mountain trails are very slippery. On the slippery slope over looking the valley once I was tempted to throw my cap imaging Jothika might bring it back, but changed my mind realizing that she is married now, and what would happen to me if she comes with Surya, her husband who has a 6 pack abdomen. Some activities are best done only in the films.
