Castillo de Luna (Luna Castle) is a fortress located in the Spanish city of Rota in Andalucia. It has a rectangular plant built around a central "patio" in gothic style. It´s possible that the castle stands in the same place as a Muslim fortress. The city was conquered from the Muslims in 1264 and since then it has been property of the Rota territory. During the Ponce de Leon government the castle was the governor´s house until 1750. In 1909 the Marquis of San Marcial bought it for 15000 pesetas and used it as a summer residence making important reforms to the building. In 1943, it was sold to José León de Carranza for 200000 pesetas and transformed in a College (Colegio de San Ramon) and hospital (Hospital de San Jose). The building was abandoned in 1982 and finally, in 1987, the city hall, bought it and restored it. In 1999 it became the city hall building.

Located in the ancient part of town...this castle, has become part of the city government. It boasts a long history of having been owned by Ponce De Leon's family and having played host to some of Columbus' crew members (from Rota). Magnificent architechture has been recently renovated in immaculate classic style. The outer grounds have a beautiful plaza, well decorated grounds and impressive views of a church right next door.
