Cori Pastificio won in the “New Opening of the Year” category of the 4-year-old awards program created by Gambero Rosso, an Italian food and wine magazine. It was the only American restaurant to earn special recognition. The others are in China, Japan, France, Scotland and Canada.

Upas St and 30th on the south side of Upas, next door to Aburi Sushi on the corner (.9 mi). Closed Mondays. Named best Italian restaurant for 2021 by San Diego Magazine. A small parking lot behind the building, other than that street parking. Another favorite for Italian food. Lauren, my daughter, recommends their Lasagna. My husband Paul recommends their gnocchi.

Another great Italian restaurant at the corner of 30th and Upas. Can dress up or go casual, usually no reservations required but call ahead. All of their pastas are homemade.

Newest Italian spot in the neighborhood. All the pasta is made fresh in house and is phenomenal! Try the Fritelli Cacio e Pepe to start - it's an Italian style donut with a pecorino foam and pipli black paper - yum!!
