Hiking & Mountain Climbing
The most challenging and spectacular mountain climb in the area. Also the most dangerous. The climb takes about three hours and there are some near-vertical rock faces with chains. Proper footwear is a must, climbing experience strongly recommended. Trailhead is the same as Togakushi Shrine Okusha, featured elsewhere in this guide.

Kagami-ike is a beautiful lake offering a spectacular reflection of the Togakushi mountains. Best viewed in autumn for the breathtaking array of colors, but this location can be visited any time of the year. In winter, you will need snowshoes or cross country skis to get there, however.

Seiyu is the closest supermarket to the house, about 20 minutes away. It is also open 24 hours a day. But you must drive all the way down the mountain into Nagano city to get there.

Tsuruya, like Seiyu, is a full-service supermarket down at the bottom of the mountain in Nagano city. 25 minutes from the house, it is a bit further away than Seiyu and it usually closes at 8:00 pm, but it has less expensive produce than other supermarkets.
