Ask me about a place to go tubing, 15 minutes from here. Cost is $12 person
The have great trails to a great waterfall. And a smaller waterfall that is only a quarter of a mile hike. The trails run along the creek/river. You can do a complete loop to get there and back - an easier gentle way up and steeper climb down. Or you can make it an easy trail and use the gentle way for up and back.

You can walk, ride a bike, skateboard or scooter along this trail that runs for thirteen miles. There are picnic tables, benches, exercise equipment, and various other stuff along the way; get on and off and browse the downtown areas of Spindale and Forest City.

Shopping

I love this store! I take most visitors to it. It's an old family-owned country store that opened in 1831 as an inn, tavern and mercantile and has stayed open and in the family since. They sell a bunch of old-timey stuff that's fun to browse, and they run a pretty good lunch sandwich business. They are closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. See washburnstore.com

What's around within 25 min. (working on this. 2 down and _?_ to go!)
This is a great little bakery where you can sit and have lunch. Downtown Forest city is super cute. It is completely lit up at the holidays, and there are a lot of cute little shops to browse.

This compounding pharmacy has been in business since 1939. It has an old fashioned soda counter and tables where people love to eat lunch. Join them!

Thrift Shopping! Forest City has the best!

Here’s a list in Forest City alone, and quite honestly, if I were going to ONE town thrifting, Forest City would be it. If I were on vacation and could spend a whole day lunching and thrifting with a friend, I might also go through Spindale and on to Rutherfordton, because those have cool downtowns too but quite honestly, I don’t even know what’s there for thrift stores because I have a job of building a camp and am not on vacation. TAKE NOTE - none of these places are open on Sundays or Mondays (The downtown gift stores aren’t either because they’re open on Saturday and want two days off. Fair enough!) They also don’t open until 10am (a little late if you ask me, but no one has so far). I am listing these in locational order from my place if I were to hit all of them.
When I'm hitting all of them, this is my first stop because I go in locational order from my place. Ask what the daily sale is.

Not cheap (i.e. not thrift, but reasonable), worth a look-see, she’s got cool stuff, and some furniture. Even I have bought stuff there, thereby proving it in the reasonably priced category. Oh, but she’s only open Thurs, Fri, Sat 10-4

One of my go-to’s when I only want to stop at a couple places. Just past the light at the firehouse is Hospice on the left, before J’s and the gas station.

This is an awesome discount grocery store. I save so much money every week by hitting this place (for one). Don't look at this from the outside and think, nah. Don't go in and take a quick run through and think, nah. You have to actually LOOK at many things. You will be amazed at the price of some high quality specialty foods.

There are three very large chain discount stores in this one parking area across the road from Walmart, and one antique shop called Family Treasures. So many, so close together, I just thought I'd include it.

It's called ReStore (an extension of Habitat for Humanity. It's huge. Has tons of furniture, also linens, kitchenware, toys, etc, no clothes. Prices are real decent.

There is another thrift store on the left, pretty close to just past ReStore. It's privately owned. If you're meandering, might as well stop in. I can't remember the name offhand...

This is just off Main Street. You continue heading west after leaving ReStore, pass Callahan Koon Rd on the left. Keep looking for a sign on your left that says "Thrift Store" I think. But maybe it says "yokefellow". I think the sign is yellow and has an arrow. Go right there and it's located inside the chain link fence lot. Technically this in in Spindale, but just across the line. This is my last stop before I turn around (but as I said, I am sure Spindale and Rutherfordton have good thrift stores too and you can just keep right on chugging down Main Street to get there. Yokefellow is an awesome thrift store, and a great community member.
