Beautiful swimming hole and waterfall. A 30 min drive from us but check road status after flooding!

A beautiful local swimming hole surrounded by beautiful bushland. Located in Barkers Vale, which is a 10 minute drive from our property. Hanging Rock Falls unloads into a large swimming hole, which is 7.5 metres deep in some parts. Difficulty of access is 4/10. There is a narrow, well-worn path. Access to the swimming hole by jumping and climbing in/out (rocks can be slippery). There are no toilet facilities.

Only 6km drive south of Wishingwell Farm, "Hanging Rock Falls" is a great place to swim, cool off and enjoy the native flora and fauna.

Hangling Rock Falls Near Nimbin, NSW, Australia Hanging Rock Falls unloads into very large swimming hole which is seven and a half metres deep in parts. The falls tumble over the rocks which are used to access the swimming hole. There is a rope swing from high up on the cliffs and a fallen log from which it is possible to jump (with care!), as well as a smaller jump from the rocks for kids and those with less of an adrenaline requirement. The pool is well known and popular with backpackers and can get busy on hot days. How To Get There: Heading North from Nimbin or turn on to Stony Creek Road. Difficulty of access: 4/10 – The path down is narrow but well worn. Access to the water is by climbing or jumping in and climbing out and the rocks can get slippery. Opening Times/Seasons: Open all day all year Entrance Fee: Free Facilities Nearby: There are no toilets or other facilities at this spot, just beautiful bushland. The closest facilities are in Nimbin. Other Activities: There are monthly markets in Nimbin and a Saturday farmers market in Blue Knob as well as a craft market in The Channon. Other Places of Interest Nearby: Lillian rock is a natural rock formation 15 minutes drive north of Hanging Rock Falls with sacred significance for local aboriginal people. Djanbung Gardens offers the opportunity to learn about sustainable living and see Permaculture in action. Wildlife: With the rainforests of the Nightcap National Park and Border Ranges National park as well as the Mebbin National park so closeby, there is a huge range of flora and fauna in the area. Check in with Hugh and Nan at The Channon campsite who have written and published an incredible series of books on Australian plants which you can buy direct from them. They are absolute founts of knowledge on local flora. The swimming hole itself is surrounded by bush but is one of the more frequented spots which may keep more timid wildlife away. Places to Eat: There are a variety of cafes and restaurants in Nimbin , Lismore and Byron. The Blue Knob Gallery and Cafe is very close to Hanging Rock Falls. Where to Camp: Several of the backpacker hostels in Nimbin offer camping. Slightly further afield, the Channon campsite is small, tranquil and friendly and even has its own small swimming hole in the creek at the bottom of the cow field. Other places to Stay: There are well-priced camping grounds in Nimbin. Nearby Towns: Nimbin (15 mins drive), The Channon (45 mins drive), Lismore (40 mins drive) and Byron (90 mins drive).
