Carcassonne is worth a visit as it has an historic castle and streets , well worth a half day - prob better to visit early as it is cooler if it is a hot summer day. On Bastille day 17th July the fireworks are lit up right around the castle so most people visit with a picnic in the surroundign areas to watch.

During the 17th century, this canal was dug out over more than 300 kilometres, to link the Garonne river to the Mediterranean Sea. It counts 328 water constructions (bridges, locks, aqueducts, tunnels, etc.). It is one of the best examples of water engineering. However, this technical masterpiece is perfectly integrated in the surrounding landscapes, where you can hike and bike in the shade of plane trees.

This town, scattered with heritage, was loved by Molière who lived here several times. The writer of Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme is honoured by an exhibition made with modern techniques. Besides Molière, the old town centre is very charming, with cobblestones and mansions from the 17th and 18th centuries. Lovely outdoor market on Friday nights - buy paintings and local produce for gifts.

This medieval town in the Haut Languedoc nature park dominates the Orb valley. It has a very mild climate, making it extremely suitable for the growth of mimosa and exotic plants. That is how the town got its nickname of « Nice of the Hérault ». Like a garden, Roquebrun is crossed by a botanic trail.

As an important halt for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella, Saint Guilhem le Désert is part of the most beautiful villages of France and is listed as one of the Grand Sites de France®. Well deserved titles. The village is nestled between the dazzling cliffs of the Val de Gellone. When the night falls and when the evening sun touches the rock bringing golden shades to the abbey, the village is at its best.

On the border of the Languedoc and the Cévennes, the water has hollowed out the plateau of Thaurac, creating an underground masterwork. Concretions, stalagmites and stalactites are so beautiful here, that they seem to have been made by man. Still, they have been formed by nature. In the main chamber, also called the Cathedral, you’ll find an immense concretion that seems to represent the Virgin and the Child.

Parks & Nature

Great day out for children - bring a picnic and enjoy a whole day out. Always a favourite. as the website says - "The Sigean African Safari park, South of France, is very well laid out and has all the animals you can think off: Lions, Giraffes, Rhinos, Gorillas, Elephants (my son Archie's favourite), Emus with attitude and lots and lots of Monkeys. If you are looking to spend a good day out in South of France with the kids, then Sigean Safari park is the ideal choice. Whenever we're out with the kids in the car, we always play the game of who is first to spot a poster for the Arican Safari Park in Sigean. Trust me wherever you go in the South of France you will see a poster advertising this park. We even saw a poster near Barcelona and up in the Pyrenees."
