Carcassonne is worth a visit as it has an historic castle and streets , well worth a half day - prob better to visit early as it is cooler if it is a hot summer day.
On Bastille day 17th July the fireworks are lit up right around the castle so most people visit with a picnic in the surroundign areas to watch.

It counts 328 water constructions (bridges, locks, aqueducts, tunnels, etc.). It is one of the best examples of water engineering. However, this technical masterpiece is perfectly integrated in the surrounding landscapes, where you can hike and bike in the shade of plane trees.

Concretions, stalagmites and stalactites are so beautiful here, that they seem to have been made by man. Still, they have been formed by nature. In the main chamber, also called the Cathedral, you’ll find an immense concretion that seems to represent the Virgin and the Child.
