Amazing Italian deli/restaurant across the road. It would be crazy to not pop in for a visit. It can be difficult to get a table because the place is so popular. The whole menu is also available to take away at slightly cheaper prices so if it’s packed then just choose what you fancy and bring it back to the flat to eat.

Award-winning fine dining restaurant in Dennistoun that opened last year. Set within an Edwardian townhouse, it has been expertly renovated and is a beautiful place to spend an evening – sophisticated but comfortable. The chefs are some of Scotland’s best, the menu is creative, artistic and very well devised. It’s quite expensive – up to £25 for a main course – but really feels like a treat.

Beautiful local park - great place for a walk or run. There is an outdoor gym, small basketball court, duck pond and even a 9 hole golf course. Great views of the city are possible if you choose the uphill paths. A lovely place for a picnic in the summer. Drinking alcohol in public is not technically allowed in Glasgow, but on a sunny weekend you will see lots of people having a cold drink with their picnic. In most places it is not policed at all. Except Kelvingrove Park (see below).

Large park in the West End, the River Kelvin runs through it. Popular with Glasgow Uni students. They have tennis courts which are free to hire for Glasgow residents. If you want to book one, let me know. This park is not the place to drink a cold beer on a hot summer’s day. When the sun is out, the police always patrol Kelvingrove. On the day of the Royal Wedding in 2011 the park was so popular with drinkers that the police arrived on horseback and chased them out!

The oldest public space in Glasgow which sits on the banks of the River Clyde. Very flat, a great place for cycling. Bike hire is available at the main gates to the park. Huge play area for kids, good paths for running and large grass areas perfect for exercising (some boot camp fitness and yoga classes take place here.) Right beside People’s Palace/Winter Gardens and the WEST brewery.

Large covered gardens in the West End, open since the 1800s. Wonderful place to spend some time and great for taking photographs. Open from 7am until dusk every day, often open late for night events such as their renowned light shows.

The beautiful Loch Lomond is not too far away and makes for an excellent trip if you are looking to escape the city for a day. Trains to Balloch on the banks of the loch leave regularly from Bellgrove station (15 minute walk from the flat) and cost only £6.30 for an off-peak day return. Journey time: 52 minutes.
