Sushi Beach was born in 2009 from Alessandro Danello and Alberto Tiranini, the fourth generation of restaurateurs of the Tiranini family. After many international experiences around the world they were fascinated by oriental kitchen, so they decided to create a bond between the sushi culture and the freshness of ligurian fish, bringing a breath of exotic air in Savona and soon becoming one of the best sushi restaurants around. Sushi Beach is divided in two seasons: during winter the service is prepared in the three food design rooms, Tappeti Volanti (Flying Carpets), Cromo Dinner and the newborn Sala Nassa (Fishing Pot). During summer the sushi is served in our terrace by the pool and facing the sea, to live a Pieds dans l’eau experience at its best. Sushi Beach is open every night from 20 to 23. Closed on Mondays.

In between the beach and the harbour you pass the Priamar fortress built in 1542 and used as a prison housing up to 500 prisoners during most of the 19th century. Pre-Roman, Roman and Byzantine traces have also been found on site, and today Priamar houses Savona’s Archaeological Museum (when it is not closed for reconstruction, Mondays or noon-breaks). Among Savona's treasures to survive destruction by Genoese forces in the 16th century is the lumbering Fortezza del Priamàr . This imposing fortress guards a couple of sculpture museums and the Civico Museo Storico Archeologico.

I seem to recall there are only two Sistine Chapels in the world. One is in Rome and another one is in Savona. The word Sistine implies that the chapel was erected by Pope Sixtus IV who was born in Savona and wanted a mausoleum for his parents. The Savonese Cappella Sistina can be found behind the cathedral. It has been renovated in the Rococo style with ornate decorations, golden curlicues and a ceiling painted by Paolo Geralamo Brusco (don’t expect Michelangelo). Visitors also marvel over the carved wooden choir seats and the elegant cloister garden.

Acquario di Genova, which has been expanded by adding the internal section “Tropical Garden – Un Battito d’Ali” (Wings flapping), has the most extensive range of aquatic biodiversity in Europe in terms of number of tanks and hosted species. Every year, new areas and new species coming from endangered environments wait for visitors to experience time and again both emotional and educational moments.
