Take a stroll down 429 Front Street and discover the story of Portsmouth. Artist Robert Dafford has helped turn a 2,000 foot concrete floodwall along the Ohio River in Portsmouth, Ohio, into an outdoor art gallery depicting the history of Portsmouth and surrounding areas. Dafford, a native of Lafayette, LA, is an internationally known muralist who has over 35 years of experience. His work is on display throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. The planning stages of the Floodwall Mural Project began in 1992 with the formation of the Portsmouth Murals, Inc. The purpose of the project is to depict the history of the Portsmouth area, creating one of the world's single largest mural projects. The section of the floodwall included in the project is 20 feet high and extends for 2,200 feet along Front Street in downtown Portsmouth.

Best Hiking Trails

The Shawnee State Forest Backpack Trail consists of three loops that can be combined to create hikes of up to 50 miles. This is the most challenging backpack trail in Ohio and it travels through the largest State Forest. There are seven backcountry camp areas and plenty of rugged scenery in this area known as “The Little Smokies.”
Length: Options vary from 21 miles to just over 50 miles. Difficulty: Hiking is some of the most difficult in Ohio. Count on plenty of steep climbs and drops of up to 400+ fee

Portsmouth Raceway Park was built in 1990 and opened the same year with two races being held that year with full schedules being run since 1991. The track is owned and operated by Joyce Coleman, and Tim & Jenny Coleman. Tim, son of Boone and Joyce, is the track coordinator and track manager. Donna Rayburn is the track promoter. Advertising is with National Speed Sport News, and local news media in the tri-state area of Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia. P.R.P. is fortunate to have people with many years of racing experience handling the main duties.
