A walk to the Mount Tomaree summit is a great way to take in Shoal Bay and surrounds. It's a fairly strenuous walk to the summit, with paths and stairs the whole way. The view is definitely worth the effort!

There are ferry services running daily between Nelson Bay and Tea Gardens. You might spot a dolphin or two on the ride across. You can take the bikes over and explore the other side of the bay, hire a kayak or stroll the waterfront and check out the local galleries, shops and cafes. Food scene

This modern Greek restaurant in Shoal Bay is a great place for a special dinner. The food is delicious and plentiful and the cocktails are pretty good too. Best enjoyed with a larger group so you can share lots of dishes. It's good in a smaller group too, but you'll just need to come back to try all the dishes you couldn't fit in! I recommend you book in advance to get a table. In Summer and over school holidays, get your booking a couple of weeks in advance to avoid disappointment.
