The lovely harbour, plentiful eateries and bustling fore street shops gives Salcombe a unique atmosphere - the best place to park is Shadycombe carpark next to the Salcombe Dairy (our favourite ice cream is the Clotted Cream Honeycombe!) There is also a nearby long stay Creek carpark as can get very busy at peak times. Places to eat are plentiful - among them are: Breakfast - on a fine day you can't beat sitting on the quay side at The Wardroom or Captain Morgans - both situated at Whitestrand Car park. Also The Fortesque Arms, Victoria Inn, Sailor V (breakfast and lunch only) The Kings Arms, Dick and Wills. For takeaways you also have fish&chips, and pizza on Fore Street.

The Beach House Cafe overlooks the beach at South Milton Sands. Sit on picnic benches outside with your feet in the sand and enjoy the most delicious sea food and snacks. The National Trust carpark is a good size and right by the beach but can fill up so get their early at peak times. The beach is super for swimming, sandcastles, rock pooling and you can hire SUPS and windsurfers. Life guards on duty in the season.

One of the best places for Lobster! Relaxed and child friendly - semi out door. Also have a pizza oven. There are two routes to reach the The Oyster Shack. You can take the tidal road from Aveton Gifford which is passable up to 2 hours either side of high tide and takes about 15 mins from the cottage. If the tidal road isn't passable the journey is slightly longer but still worth the trip! Book at www.oystershack.co.uk. Check tide times at www.thebeachguide.co.uk

A long shingle beach and the Slapton Ley inland lake border the coast road to Dartmouth. Slapton Ley is the largest natural fresh water lake in SW England and ideal for walking and birdwatching. See the memorial to the tragic 2nd World War D-Day rehearsal when over a thousand allied soldiers were killed after a German E-boats (fast patrol boats) came across the practice landings.
