The Palace of Culture was a "gift" from Stalin and Soviet regime back in the day. For some remains an unpleasant memory, for others became indispensable part of Warsaw. Bars, cinemas, theaters inside.

The palace at the southern end of the Royal Route came through the Second World War without a scratch. So Wilanów Palace is a rare glimpse of the majesty of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth before Poland was annexed by Prussia and Russia in the late-18th century. This palace was intended as a summer escape for King Jan III Sobieski towards the end of the 17th century, and has all the hallmarks of Baroque palace architecture, including a parterre with two terraces boasting topiaries, broderie and statues symbolising love. The exterior is laden with medallions, busts, statues and other Baroque ornamentation, while interior decor abounds with stuccowork, striking trompe-l’œil frescoes and chinoiserie. High points are the sumptuous White Hall, traced by mirrors, the King’s Library, the King’s Bedroom and the North Gallery, flanked by statues and with magnificent ceiling frescoes.

The National Museum in Warsaw was originally founded in 1862 as the Museum of Fine Arts and is currently one of the oldest art museums in the country. After Poland regained its independence in 1918, the National Museum was ascribed a prominent role in the plans for the new state and its capital city of Warsaw, and the Modernist building in which it currently resides was erected in 1927–1938. Today, the National Museum in Warsaw boasts a collection numbering around 830,000 works of art from Poland and abroad, from ancient times to the present including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, coins, as well as utilitarian objects and design.

Taste of communist architecture” It is interesting to change a bit architectural style and come back through Plac Zbawiciela and Plac Konstytucji. Plac Zbawiciela is a charming place with very popular clubs and restaurants. On Plac Konstytucji it is finally possible to catch a glimpse of socrealist urban project . Next to the Palace of Culture and Science it was the main socrealist investment between 1946-1956. On the buildings there are typical for the 1950s period, sculptures of socialist workers.

It is good to begin with the Warsaw’s Old Town. This oldest part of Warsaw was established in 13th century. It is surrounded by the city walls and the Barbican, reconstructed to their medieval shapes after the World War II. The Old Town Market Place is the heart of the area. It is interesting to look at the old pictures from different periods of the Old Town existence. The most impressive is to see the photos from 1945 and compare it with nowadays form. It can enable us to imagine the magnitude of destruction after the World War II. In the Old Town there are many different churches to see. There is Kamienne Schodki street leading down to the Vistula river . We can also relax for a while on a bench with a view on the Vistula river. In the area of the Old Town we have to see the Castle Square and the Royal Castle. Next to castle there is the Sigismund’s Columne, one of the oldest monuments in Northern Europe erected in 1644.

The ‘Koszyki’ market hall, also referred to as ‘People’s bazaar’ was built in 1906-1908 in Koszykowa Street in Warsaw at the then ‘Koszyki’ grange place. For many years it performed as the main city market, very modern as for its times. Today Hala is ahead of its time again – it’s a pioneering solution of a place where 18 restaurants, 11 groceries, a fine Bazar Koszyki open from dawn to dusk, a chemist, a bookstore and a kitchen accessories and appliances shop are lined up next to each other.

For a long time a forgotten place of Warsaw, for last few years Praga has been rediscovered. Ząbkowska street tempts us with bars, galleries and restored buildings from the end of 19th century. On the other hand Saska Kępa is a place where the artists and the intelligentsia found their home. Skaryszewski Park considered as a one of the most beautiful in Warsaw and Francuska street with many magical places can make us fall in love with the left side of the river borough.
