A two minute walk from our front door, this park provides the absolute best view of Milwaukee's skyline. We love to take the path located at the top of the hill down to Kadish park, which is directly south of Resevoir Park, and then follow it onto the Oak Leak Trail. Follow it down to Lakefront Brewery and their cheese curds or continue across the historic Holton Street Bridge towards Brady street. **In the winter, there is a great sledding hill on the N Bremen Street side of the park. We keep a few sleds in our coat closet for it.

Directly on Lake Michigan, this museum is worth a visit both for the architecture and its contents. You could easily spend the day exploring the galleries or focus on a few specific exhibits. Right next to the art museum is the Betty Brinn Children's Museum.

Known for their Friday fish fry's, top-notch cheese curds, hilarious (and generous) brewery tours, and - of course - beer, this place is a Milwaukee staple. In summer months, they have a lively patio right on the river (that's right, no lakes in sight.) In the winter, they have cozy little riverfront "greenhouses" you can reserve for dinner time. Some nights there is live polka music, other nights, drag bingo. Take a look at their calendar and stroll on over there - it is a lovely 11 minute walk from the house.

With bridges built during the early 1900s, this scenic trail weaves through ravines to the shore of Lake Michigan. Aside from a few stretches of stairs, it is a relatively easy hike that we enjoy year round (the stairs do get slippery in winter). Mighty recommend taking time to enjoy the beach once you reach it - there are beautiful ice formations in winter and sunny sand in the summer. This is a great place to spend the day on the beach if you are looking for a quieter spot to unwind. If looking for a bigger beach that you can drive directly up to, nearby Grant Park Beach is a great choice.

A fantastic mish-mosh of vendors, the Public Market is home to food, beverages, and products that will spark joy in just about anyone. Our favorite way to enjoy is "tapas style," where we order one item from a handful of vendors. The market is located in the 3rd Ward, a historically industrial and Irish neighborhood that was revitalized not too long ago. Shoe shine factories, tanneries, etc. now house apartments, restaurants, and retail stores.

With a great view of Lake Michigan, this park has a lovely, well maintained beach at the bottom of a stretch of stairs. Just south of the beach, under 23 feet of water, is one of Lake Michigan's many shipwrecks. The Appomattox, a wooden bulk carrier, sunk in 1905. Located in the Shorewood neighborhood, which is home to some beautiful late 1800s and early 1900s lakefront mansions.

Nosh (Food + Bev)

This well loved Milwaukee roaster has several cafes throughout the city, but this one is our favorite. Located in what used to be an old water treatment facility, it's got a unique interior and, during warmer months, a popular patio. Colectivo's main roasting facility (aka where the coffee bean magic happens) is right in our neighborhood, on Humbolt! We love this cafe just as much - during the week, you'll likely catch them roasting a fresh batch of beans.

Our favorite brunch and lunch spot, this is a beautifully curated space with an "impossible to decide" menu. Yummy cocktails or a coffee will tide you over if there is a wait time (which, during weekends, will likely be the case). They are currently open Friday - Monday, 8AM - 3PM. This place is a lovely 13 minute walk from the house. We take Booth Street south and then Resevoir Ave will bring you to N Hubbard.

Tasty brunch, plentiful vegetarian and vegan options, and sunny windows make this a popular neighborhood spot. We like to order our food at the Wonderland counter and then have them bring it to neighboring Art Bar, where you can order espresso drinks, bloodys, mimosas, etc. (the businesses share an owner!).

When German immigrants flocked to Milwakee in the late 1800s, they brought with them some fantastic traditions, one of them being a love for beer gardens. The city has kept this tradition alive, with many several gardens throughout the city. The one in Hubbard Park is our personal favorite, as it's wooded and right on the Milwaukee river. We like to get there via a 14 minute bike ride, which mostly follows the Oak Leaf Trail (city bike path).

An iconic bakery keeping the traditions of Milwaukee's Italian immigrants very alive. Directly across the street from a beautiful old Catholic church. There are really no wrong answers here, but a few of our favorites are their savory pastries, freshly filled canollis, and biscotti. A few blocks down the street is Glorioso's a phenomenal Italian grocery and deli.

Milwaukeeans love their frozen custard, and so should you! This is one of our favorite purveyor of it. In addition to frozen treats, this place also serves butter burgers, top notch onion rings, etc. Another favorite custard spots in town is Leon's, on the southside of town. This is as close to Miami Beach as the Midwest gets! A wide sandy beach, it can get pretty bustling in the summer with 20+ volleyball nets, 3 beach bar huts, several food stands, and sun-chasing Milwaukeeans. Somedays we like to be on the busier southern part of the beach, other days we stick to the quieter northern part.

Seeing the city from the river is a must-do if you're here in the warmer months. This is our favorite kayak rental place in town - the launch is right across from the picturesque Hoan Bridge. We recommend paddling up the river towards downtown, where you can see an old railroad swinging bridge and possibly dock at Milwaukee Ale House for a beverage. The kayak company shares a parking lot with Boone & Crocket, a popular bar and food truck patio, which makes for convenient post paddle drinking and dining. Tacos taste extra great after a couple hours of paddling!
