Šulić beach (pronounced “shoo-lich“) is named after a local family and is considered as one of the oldest swimming spots in Dubrovnik. This swimming spot is perfect for anyone looking for shade on the hot days. Due to its location between two large cliffs, you will find plenty of morning shade here on the eastern bit of the bay and afternoon shade on the western shore. Mostly used by locals, this beach is also popular by day-trippers and short-time visitors to the town. The beach offers great views over the open seas as well as over nearby Lovrijenac tower that is situated just there – on the eastern side of the bay, on the top of the tall cliff. The facilities there include two beach bar/ cafe/ restaurants, and public shower & toilet. At this spot, you can also hire a sea kayak to explore further or if you have your snorkeling gear, you can enjoy watching here the underwater life. Getting to Šulić: From the Old Town – walk out from the walled town through Pile Gate and as soon as you are out of the gate turn left down the steps of Ulica Svetog Đurđa and left again to Ulica od Tabakarije for another couple of minutes. On the left side of the houses, you will see the steps leading down to the beach. From Lapad (our apartment) – take bus no 6 to Pile and follow instructions as above.

St. Jakov Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Dubrovnik, is located in the eastern part of Dubrovnik in the tiny bay offering a distant look to the Old Town and island Lokrum. It is situated about a mile away from the Old Town so you can reach it from our apartment by bus no 5. If you take the bus wait it on the bus station near the entrance to the promenade. The last stop of the bus is where you get off the bus as the beach is just a few hundred meters away, down the hill. Once you arrive near the St. Jakov church which is situated on the top of the cliff, just around the corner of the church is a staircase to descend down to the Beach. There are about 160 steps to the beach so be prepared. :)

If you want to escape the summer temperature, your best choice is the island of Lokrum, 600 metres from the city of Dubrovnik, in front of the Old Town. You will enjoy in the beauty of sunbathing or simply relaxing in the shade of the thick pine tree woods. The island of Lokrum is a special reserve of forest vegetation, and at the same time is also under the protection of UNESCO. Lokrum’s beaches are very attractive and extend along the entire length of the island, so for all those who start exploring this evergreen island they will come across numerous coves where, in a moment, they can be in the turquoise blue sea and then enjoy swimming, diving, jumping into the sea and some other activities. On the southern end of the island is the Mrtvo More (Dead Sea) which via an underwater passage is connected to the open sea, and it is particularly suitable for children and non-swimmers.

Šunj is a sandy beach located in a beautiful bay on the south side of Lopud island, near Dubrovnik. The water is especially shallow for 100m, making it perfect for children and people that aren't strong swimmers. You'll find a bars and restaurants on this beach that both locals and tourists like to visit. Some even sleep on the comfortable sand overnight, simply carrying on enjoyiing the surroundings in the morning. Right above the beach is a thick wood where you can take shade from the sun. You can reach Sunj beach two ways. The first option is to take a daytrip boat that will take you directly to the beach, the second is to go by ferry on the regular line from Dubrovnik. The ferry docks on the north side of the island which means you'll have a 20 minute walk through beautiful woods to reach the beach. The ferry leaves Dubrovnik in the morning, making its return in the evening and as such we highly recomemnd a day trip to theis island of beautiful nature.

Warning: landslides of rocks from the cliff have been recorded and can be life threatening! According to the readers of the renowned portal "European Best Destinations" (EBD), Pasjača beach in Konavle, more precisely in the small willage Popovići, was declared the most beautiful European beach in 2019! It is a pebble beach and about 45 mins away from Dubrovnik and about 15 mins away from Cavtat. We advice you to go shopping prior your visit because beach is without any kind of bars, restaurantes or shades. There is nothing of loud music or water sports - just nature and quietness. This is a beach for people looking for peace and quiet and the opportunity to enjoy the nature around them. It is surrounded with high cliffs that make the landscape more special but also very dangerous. To get to the beach you have to take a narrow path so make sure that you are wearing comfortable shoes. If you have the fear of height or if you have trouble walking on steep cliffs or if you have small children - this is not beach for you. You will have to walk down the side of the cliffs for 10 min to get there and 15 to 20 to get up. This part is one of the things that make this beach unusual.
