The total area of Grīziņkalns Park is 10.4 ha. In the park, both local and other species of trees and shrubs, originating in nature, grow more often and less frequently. Already in 1885, the plan for the construction of the city was intended to install a park on a 24-meter high sand dune. The installation of the park continued until 1911. It was built on three terraces: at the very bottom there was a restaurant, a dance floor and a theater; On the second terrace was the promenade square and the porch, but on the third terrace it was planned to create a 65-foot high tower and artificial castle ruins with a cafe and a wine grass, which was not realized.
