Agios Prokopios beach is fairly credited as one of the best beaches not only for its crystal clear waters but also for its unique type of sand. Agios Prokopios is a quite long beach offering both sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach as free parties where you have to carry your own equipment. Also, Agios Prokopios has a small wreck which reachable very easily. However, if you want to explore Naxos wrecks and the underwater beauty it is highly recommended to do so with a scuba dive team which you can find on the beach. Note that during top season finding a parking place there can be tricky.

Aliko and Hawai beaches are definitely the must-visit spots for explorers! The two beaches are separated by the famous Hotel ruins and both do not have any kind of facility or cafe, so be ready to pack everything you may need for the day! If you are lucky, the Naxos canteen might be there. Both beaches are beautiful, but the access to Hawai beach might be tricky. Definitely if going there you have to stop at the hotel ruins and check out those amazing 3D graffiti.

Apeiranthos is the secret diamond of Naxos. The whole village is built out of marble giving a unique traditional sense to the visitor and locals there speak a different greek dialect from the rest of the island! If being meat lovers definitely give it a try and taste some of our local dishes like the 'Rosto'. Also at the entrance of the village, you will find the only cafe that is built on the cliffs with a breathtaking view!

Chora is the capital of Naxos and definitely must be visited! Apart from its big variety in restaurants, cafés, shops, bars, cocktail bars, which cater for all tastes, you can stroll inside the old market and the castle or see the sunset from Portara . Again parking can be tricky during the high season there, but be careful and use only the public parking and do not park on the street as police patrol is intense there.

Consejos sobre la ciudad

Cómo moverse

Private vehicle is by far the best way to get around.

Getting your private vehicle apart from saving you some money will let you explore all the island. Naxos island is the biggest island of all Cyclades so moving around by taxi is expensive. Using public transportation is not the ideal solution as the buses are never on time, tend to be crowded and have few stops on the island. Let me know if you need any kind of private vehicle in order to help you out and give you access to special offers and discounts.

Visiting the villages on the mountains

Undoubtedly Naxos is ideal for relaxing on the beach and swimming in crystal clear waters. However, I strongly recommend visiting at least the three most important villages (Chalki, Filoti, Apeiranthos) in the mountains and trying the local dishes there (meat lovers will definitely be surprised).

Nudism is prohibited.

Even though few people, on hidden beaches do be nudists, nudism is generally not allowed and locals consider it offensive.

Restaurants and bars during high season.

During high season (mid-July to the end of August) is the most popular date for holidays on Naxos island. Make sure to book ahead anything in order to find availability and enjoy it without waiting in the queues.

Summer clothes

From May to the end of September summer clothes are the type you have to carry accompanied by a couple of swimsuits. However during the night because of the high humidity and the wind of 'Meltemia' can be chilly, so a jacket can be also included in your wardrobe. Generally, sandals are recommended but in case you wish to explore nature and the mountains close shoes are strongly recommended because of the snakes.

Moving with strollers can be tricky

Naxos is an island and all rounds and pavements tend to be more narrow.

Gestures

Most Greek people know that tourists cannot know the gesture that we consider offensive. However, as a piece of friendly advice, I strongly recommend never to greet a Greek with an open hand and the palm towards him/her as is considered offensive. Instead, close slightly your fingers. On the other part if Greek spits softly several consecutive times do not misunderstand him/her. It is a positive gesture and the person who spits, try to protect you from bad spirits.
