Gibraltar is a half hour drive from La Casita. The city itself is steeped in history, has duty free shopping and sightseeing tours of the Rock with its famous Barbary apes. From the top of the rock the views across the straits to Africa are wonderful.

Set on top of a hill is the old village of Castellar nestled within the walls of its very own Morish/Roman castle. History abounds here and the views over the lake below are superb. This is a little gem!

One of the first real " white villages" of Andalucia, is less than an hours drive inland. This country town tumbles down the hillside below a Roman/ Morish Castle. The roads are very steep here and many are cobbled but a ramble round the town itself takes you back in time. The castle and grounds have the most spectacular views of the surrounding National Park, winding river below, mountain ranges in the distance and onwards to the sea. This really is an amazing and delightful place to visit. Drop into one of the plentiful bars for tapas and a drink , you won't be disappointed.

The beach here is sandy and the sea is safe making it an ideal family beach. Torreguadiaro has a variety of food on offer, Indian, Thai, Italian but if you want Spanish thenPuraTapa is an outstanding tapas venue blending traditional with fusion. If its the best fresh fish you fancy then Trasmallo is the place to go. Offering a wide selection of tapas including some meat options or full meals, the fish here is superb. Booking is suggested as this place is very busy! This venue also offers straight out to sea with views to Gibraltar and Africa.

This stretch of coast starts with some pretty coves and small bays and then straightens out offering a wonderful beach walk and Nature Zone going all the way to Castillo and Duquesa port. Dotted along the beach are the famous chiriguitos ( restaurants on the beach) which usually have beach umbrellas and sunbeds to rent ( very cheaply) and where you can walk off the beach and eat in a very informal setting. Notable is Olivar which only opens for the summer but which is definitely worth a visit. An all year round favorite is Tuballitas, locally known as " the chicken shack" because of its delicious spit roast chicken but their fresh fish and mixed paella is hard to beat.
