Hale`iwa Beach House

For a 'fancy' dinner in Haleiwa try the Haleiwa Beach House. It is about as fancy as you are going to get in town but in this laid-back surf town it is a nice sit down restaurant with good food and a beautiful of the sunset.
About a 2 minute walk to Pupukea Grill for a healthy lunch. For a healthy mahimahi 'loco moco' or lots of other yummy healthy options. Call your order in and pick up for a great lunch back at the house.

For the yummiest Acai bowls on the North Shore. Not cheap but so big that it could fill you up for lunch. Tip - get the small. The large bowl is only marginally larger and overflows so you can't mix up the fruit and granola.

Local secret- for the best crispy fried chicken come into this mini mart and get the chicken and musubi. The sushi rolls are also pretty good but when you get a fresh batch of chicken it melts in your mouth. Don't tell others about this local secret.

Bored with Haleiwa - take a short drive up to Kahuku and grab a bite at this casual dining spot for some great food. There is also a Seven Brothers food truck near the house with excellent burgers but doesn’t have the full menu of the Kahuku or Haleiwa location.

A little far away but if you are brave enough to want to try REAL Hawaiian food - not the kind you get at a Waikiki Luau this place is legit. Not for everyone but this is about the freshest poi you can get and the laulau is delish.

If you are in Wahiawa visiting the botanical garden you cannot miss picking up Maui Mikes for the juiciest chicken on the island. Take out only but don't wait until you get home to eat it. You need to eat it when it is still hot.

Sightseeing

You need to be really careful during the winter but on calm summer days you can snorkel and explore the tidepools, caves, and sandy beaches around the cove. If you are unsure ask the lifeguard for advice but better swimmers and divers can explore the deeper areas where there are underwater caves, larger fish, and crystal clear water. Despite the name, i have never actually seen a shark at Sharks Cove and it is not known as as a 'sharky' area.

It isn't the greatest botanical garden but if you have some time it is a great break from the beach scene in a local neighborhood where you can grab a lunch or dinner in Wahiawa town after the garden.

Once a hidden gem, it is still a beautiful place to visit with great parking and limited crowds during weekdays. Mostly a local favorite spot with sandy beaches and clear waters. If you walk to the island during low tides be careful about quickly rising tides and currents.

The largest heiau on the island and one of the most sacred historic sites on the island. There is not a lot to see but the place has a special 'mana' or power in the area. Take some time to soak in the history and imagine being here where human sacrifices took place.

City/town information

So much to do in town but avoid busy times of the day. It is best to go on mornings or late afternoon's if it is a weekend or holiday.

Consejos sobre la ciudad

Costumbres y cultura

Respect the locals

You are a visitor and the locals know it. If you do surf never drop in on anyone unless you want to get punched in the face. If you are an advanced surfer and want to surf North Shore, do your research before surfing the beach breaks. Even if you are a good surfer there is a pecking order in the lineup. Don't surf Pipe just so you can tell people that you surfed Pipe.
Qué meter en la valija

T-shirt, board shorts/bikini, 'slippers'.

If that is all you brought with you, you'd be fine in 99% of the places on the North Shore.
Costumbres y cultura

Be quiet and respectful to neighbors.

This is a residential neighborhood so respect your neighbors like it was your own house.
