A visit to Edinburgh would not be complete without a trip to Edinburgh Castle, especially considering you are so close. Walk two minutes up the cobbled street to your right. Don't forget to listen out for the one o-clock cannon that is fired every day (except Sunday) from the walls of the Castle.

Arthur Seat is an ancient volcano which is the peak of a group of hills in Edinburgh. If you can manage the 30 minute hike to the top (it is relatively easy), you will experience some of the best views over Edinburgh and its surrounding areas. You can take the direct route up the hill or there is an easier route which takes you around the side in a loop.

Take a hike up Calton Hill to experience panoramic views of the city. It is an easy hike which will take around 5-10 minutes which can be accessed from a stair case. Look out for some iconic Scottish monuments and buildings - the National Monument, Dugald Steward Monument and Nelson's Monument. Here you can take in wonderful views of the Edinburgh City sky line and Edinburgh Castle. The look out cafe is situated at the top of the hill and is a good spot for a bite to eat.

In part of Edinburgh's Old Town lies the Grassmarket. Make sure to stroll down Victoria Street (from The Royal Mile to Grassmarket). It is a must for those who like to take a photo. There are some lovely independent boutiques, cafes and restaurants. Check out I.J Mellis Cheesemonger, it is delicious! Harry Potter fans - this is Edinburgh's own Diagon Alley and is no surprise that this street was JK Rowlings inspiration.

THE MILKMAN - The best coffee in Edinburgh (our personal opinion) and probably the most iconic and most photographed window seat in Edinburgh. An independent speciality coffee shop in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town; the perfect place to relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The history of this coffee shop is imbued with memories and carries the story of the owner, Mark's, great grandfather. He was the last horse-drawn milkman in Aberdeenshire.
