Surf

This lovely surf town is the favourite of visitors because of the huge waves. It is important to mention that the break is quite steady. Underfoot, you’ll find a beach-reef mix with a steep takeoff. The greatest site is arguably the combination of point breaks that run from the headland to the bay’s south end, but beware of rips.

Surfing in Sayulita is some of the most well-known in all of Mexico. It’s a lively town with plenty of bars and surf stores. In addition, there are plenty of tuition and surf camps for those planning their first ever Puerto Vallarta surfing trip. The waves are also suitable for beginners. In the town itself, there are three. One is a sand-based, super-chilled beach break (pop up practice perfect). The other two are left- and right-hand reef breakers with rocks below that provide a progression point. Get there early to catch the offshore and smaller crowds — this one gets busy!

As you reach the domain of Punta Mita surf, you’ll come across Bahia. It’s a region on the northernmost tip of the Bahia de Banderas, about 45 minutes drive from Casa de Playa. It also has some of the most fantastic surfing close to Nuevo Vallarta! Some consider Bahia to be the greatest of the bunch. Seek out a water taxi that will take you directly to the break. It’s a touch off the beaten path on the headland, but it produces a gorgeous right-hand point that can carry some lengthy rides on rippable waves. Take the shortie and try to time it at high tide to avoid exposing the rocks.
