Neighborhoods

Minutes from our duplex you'll find the area we call Five Points along Glenwood Avenue and Fairview Road. There is great shopping, dining, and entertainment options, including antique stores, art galleries, restaurants, bars, pharmacies, convenience stores, churches, a bank, a coffee shop, a post office, and a theater. Parking is available along the streets and behind some buildings. Five Points features the Rialto Theatre, one of the area's few remaining independent movie theaters. The theater opened its doors in 1942 and specializes in independent, foreign, and alternative films. My favorite restaurants are Nofo (great shopping as well:) and Hayes Barton Cafe and Dessertery (famous for their HUGE, delicious cake slices). Lola's is a fun "beach bar".

Regenerating Glenwood South draws in crowds for its cluster of hip vintage-clothing stores, art galleries, and yoga studios in former warehouses along Glenwood Avenue. A buzzing after-dark scene includes taverns selling craft beer, smart DJ lounges, and speakeasy-style cocktail bars with nightly jazz concerts. Most eating options have outdoor seats and include classic steakhouses, Mexican taco bars, or sushi spots. My favorite spots are Raleigh Beer Garden (world's largest selection of draft beers!), Sushi Blues, and La Santa (modern mexican food).

Food scene

Less than a mile from our duplex you'll find The Village District (formerly known as Cameron Village). There are more than 100 unique and distinctive shops, cafés, restaurants and services. Stroll six city blocks and explore one-of-a-kind shops, specialty stores and national favorites. Dine indoors or out at the many cafés and restaurants. You'll find 2 grocery stores, 2 pharmacies, numerous banks, county library, ABC liquor store, salons, spas, gyms, urgent care and MORE! My favorite restaurant is Tazza but kids will be fascinated by the ONLY 2 story Chic-fil-a in the world. On the corner of Oberlin Rd. and Van Dyke ave. you'll find Community Deli, it doesn't look like much but it is the BEST food (breakfast and lunch only)! Their homemade soups and veggies are delicious but really EVERYTHING there is AWESOME!! The Rose Garden is several blocks away featuring Raleigh Little Theater, an outdoor amphitheater and a gorgeous huge rose garden! This is a perfect place for special photos, a relaxing picnic or catch a performance.
