"Walking between mineral-streaked cliffs of Navajo Sandstone, hikers pass beaver ponds and pre-historic rock art sites en route to the paradisaical pools" - Visit Utah This is a relatively flat hike, but it can be be challenging due to the mostly sandy surface and is best done first thing in the morning to avoid the heat. 6.5 mile out-and-back. Plan for 4-5 hours roundtrip. Bring plenty of fluids and snacks!

Capitol Reef is my personal favorite of Utah's National Parks due to it's low-key vibe and uncrowded nooks and crannies. It's located 70 miles north of Escalante and takes about 1.5 hrs to get there by car via the spectacular Highway 12.

If this state park were located anywhere other than Utah, it would likely be a National Park. Located 45 miles southwest of Escalante just outside of Cannonville on Highway 12. https://utah.com/kodachrome-basin-state-park

An amazing 65 mile loop drive (half of which is on gravel)that is unparalleled for scenery. Check in with one of our local outfitters (I recommend Utah Canyon Outdoors on Main Street, Escalante) to make sure the road passable and to get your route details dialed-in. Make a stop in Boulder for a meal at the halfway point of the drive at one of their handful of superb restaurants or food trucks!

Explore an Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) village that was likely occupied from A.D. 1050 to 1200, and one of the largest communities west of the Colorado River. Outside the museum, tour a life-sized, six-room replica of an ancient dwelling and view a portion of the original site. Inside, view artifacts excavated from this site and learn the lifeways of these ancient peoples. A (very) scenic 45 minute drive North on Highway 12 from Escalante.

Serving what creator Lacy Allen calls “food with flair,” including coffee, tea, breakfast, lunch and snacks inspired both by Indian street food and classic American-style breakfasts. Think waffles with homemade chai and cardamom maple syrup. Yum! Located at the Hills and Hollows Market in Boulder.
