MONTEFIORE In Valconca the dominating Rocca Malatestiana di Montefiore stands out among other monuments, a typical imposing example of a fortified summer residence of the lords of the time. Absolutely to see: Porta Curina, in the walls, the fourteenth-century well, located inside the courtyard, the frescoes of the fourteenth century, the exhibition of contemporary art and the paleontological collection.

MONTESCUDO We are in the middle part of Valconca, on the borders of the Malatesta Lordship towards the Republic of San Marino and towards Montefeltro. We are on a ridge that divides the Rimini plain from the road that leads to the first Apennine mountains, dominated in this area by Mount Carpegna. Montescudo was therefore an absolutely strategic point for the control of the territory. Sigismondo Pandolfo wanted to build a strong fortress here in 1460 to shield the city of Rimini.

SAN GIOVANNI IN MARIGNANO Here the wheat and wine are abundant and of excellent quality. Ancient fortifications and the structure of the town itself tell us of the importance that the village had in the Malatesta seigniory. Today S. Giovanni is an active town with a historic center full of events, fairs, markets and one week a year, around the magical night of S. Giovanni, the mysteries and fascinations of witches are relived, according to tradition.

SANTARCANGELO A door to the past, a somewhat special village, a pearl in the Valmarecchia "of poets": this is Santarcangelo! And it is here that the poets of the "Circal de Giudeizi" meet, together with their leader Tonino Guerra. Mandatory stops are the Malatesta Fortress, the Capuchin Convent, the nineteenth-century fish market, the Arch and the square dedicated to Pope Ganganelli, the "mysterious" tuff caves and the craft shops of wrought iron and the rust printing of the canvases.

San Mauro Pascoli It is the birthplace of the famous poet from Romagna, where he spent the first years of his childhood, on the La Torre dei Principi estate in Torlonia, of which his father was the administrator. Still intact is the small, dignified house where "Zvanin" - who often returned to visit his friends in Bellaria - was born on December 31, 1855. To visit:

A few kilometers from the coast, in the immediate hinterland, the beautiful valleys of the Conca and Marecchia rivers stretch out. Where the gaze can sweep over the green hills and the numerous historical and artistic testimonies of which villages and towns are rich. These are the lands that between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance were disputed between Sigismondo Malatesta, Lord of Rimini, and Federico da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino. The fortresses and fortresses that meet at every corner tell of this turbulent past.

The Fabulous Castles:

The magnificent castles scattered between Valmarecchia and Valconca offer visitors the suggestion of a distant time and a present with a broad cultural scope. The unfortunate love between Paolo and Francesca, to whom Dante Alighieri dedicated a large part of Canto V of the Inferno of the Divine Comedy, has made the magnificent castle of Gradara famous. The impenetrable fortress of San Leo, erected on a sharp boulder, between the earth and the sky, surrounded by overhanging rocks, ended its military function, it became a prison where the heretic Giuseppe Balsamo (Count of Cagliostro) died.

San Marino:

Behind the Rimini Riviera stands Mount Titano, seat of the ancient Republic of San Marino. Beautifully set between Romagna and Marche, it is the smallest state in Europe after Monaco and the Vatican City. Recognized by Unesco as a World Heritage Site in 2008, it consists of 9 "castles". The capital is San Mario city: it is located on top of Mount Titano and dominates the surrounding countryside from its 700 meters high, offering a panorama of rare beauty over the entire Romagna coast. It is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Europe.
