Food scene

Our closest pub and a beautiful English setting, beside the River Avon, where you can peacefully while away the time over a good meal served by friendly staff and watch the trout swimming in the water below, and swans gliding over the water. Often have live music at weekends so do check in advance.

Sightseeing

A lovely place to visit, both just to wander around, or perhaps visit the National Motor Museum or the lovely nearby gardens at Exbury where you can also take a trip on the Victorian steam railway or picnic by the lakes. Nearby you can also visit Bucklers Hard which is an untouched village of Georgian houses and where they built ships for the wars against France in the early 19th century. A charming place.

Burley is the quintessential New Forest village, with a great deal of charm. An excellent place from which to launch yourself into the Forest, either on foot, or hiring bikes from Forest Leisure Cycling and exploring the miles of tracks and trails. Finish the outing by having tea in the tea rooms, and perhaps pop into the Burley Fudge Shop!

Such a beautiful National Trust property with a breath-taking rose garden (you don’t even have to be a gardener to recognise this!). The house has a good 20th century art collection with changing exhibitions. Also a very lovely riverside walk. A really perfect summer outing.

A charming day or half-day out. Park near the quay at Mudeford and hop on the small ferry that takes you across to the spit where there are the most lovely beach huts beside a golden Sandy beach. There’s a restaurant/cafe and take away pizzas are available. Don’t worry about sea sickness, the ferry takes about 10 mins in sheltered waters! Beware, the car park gets very busy on sunny days; worth getting there early.
