Sightseeing

Celebrate Boise's Basque heritage by visiting the Basque Cultural Center and Museum. Shop at the Basque Market, which also serves pintxos daily, and paella on the patio a couple times a week!

Located in the heart of downtown, this park provides a great place to get in a workout (climb those stone steps a few times!), enjoy the view of downtown Boise from the top, and head up into the foothills via one of the many trails. Locals love to hike, bike and run in the foothills; once you've tried it, you will see why!

We love to visit the Birds of Prey center! It is open year round, and we highly recommend a 2-hr visit. Make sure you see the live-bird presentation, which happens several times a day. And visit the Bedouin Falconry exhibit across the parking lot if it's available.

The Greenbelt follows the Boise River for miles (25 to be exact). It's easy to access from downtown Boise (I like to park at the Cottonwood Grille and hop on the greenbelt here; grab a bite on the patio while you're there, or in the gorgeous dining room by a roaring fire in winter). Other favorite places to hop on: Ann Morrison Park, Barber Park in southeast Boise, behind Bella Aquila (our favorite restaurant; love that patio!) in Eagle, or any other place that's convenient. Walk, run, bike, hang a hammock in the trees or play on a shady beach, dip your toes in the icy water (that's snow melt, folks!). In the fall, you'll see fly fisherman wading in the water; in summer, all of Boise will be on the river in flotation devices of all types! Rafts, tubes, kayaks, etc; join in the fun and rent your choice at Barber Park (a bus will pick you up 6 miles down river at Ann Morrison Park and bring you back).

Fun Finds!

This is my favorite shop in Boise! Located in the charming neighborhood of Hyde Park, it is a fun place to find one-of-a-kind, eclectic items. While you're in the neighborhood, try one of the great restaurants; just make sure to save room for dessert at Goody's (try a decadent sundae or handmade chocolate!).

Downtown Boise is a fun place to hang out for a few hours or days! Enjoy great restaurants, explore the many shops, attend a BSU game, or bike a few miles on the Greenbelt along the Boise River. While you're in the area, stroll Freak Alley, an ever-changing art exhibit presented by local artists.

Favorite summer activity: float the Boise River! This is a 2.5 hr activity well worth it; July and August. They provide everything you need from rafts or tubes, life jackets and transportation back to your vehicle.

Food scene

It's THE place. Their specialty is Boise meat and potatoes, but upscale :) It's swanky, and there's live music. Definitely try the 10-minute martini.

Eat here for the pintxos (like tapas). If you're lucky, you'll get to enjoy the Paella on the Patio, every Wednesday and Friday at noon (but get there early, or you'll miss out!). Everything here pairs well with the sangria :)

One of the better restaurants in Boise. I've loved everything I've had here--from the avocado toast at brunch, to the butter cake for dessert. But the best thing about this restaurant is the patio! Enjoy people watching right in the heart of downtown Boise!
