Fun evening hangout

The Izaak Walton Inn is a historic train depo. It is a fun place to visit. The Inn has a full bar in the basement with a pool table, shuffle board, foosball and back hangout to play board games. They have a restaurant upstairs that also has outdoor seating. My favorite part is in the back of the inn they have a bridge that goes over the railroad tracks so when you stand on top of the tracks you can watch the train go by under your feet. Oh it also has a small playground out front for the kiddos :).

Sightseeing

If you've always wanted to see a majestic Mountain Goat this is your spot. Starting late June the goats love to congregate just under the highway bridge, and in July they usually have their kids which are adorable to watch play around. Most people park on the north side of the highway off either side of the bridge and walk to see over the bridge, but there is also a pull off spot with restrooms on the eastern side of the bridge.

Marias Pass is the lowest crossing on the continental divide between Canada and New Mexico, but it is also a beautiful spot to stop and take pictures of a few beautiful glacier mountains.

Hiking

The Walton Ranger Station is down highway 2 headed east about 5 minutes. This is the starting place for a few glacier hikes. You can also access the river for some swimming, or fishing.

Cómo moverse

Personal Vehicle is the way to go

Having your own vehicle is about the only way to be able to get around the park and sightsee without staying inside Glacier Park. There are a few options for hiking shuttles and tour buses once inside the park. I recommend the hiking shuttle for day hikes as there is a lot of construction this year and limited parking.

Bring a warm layer

Mountain weather is unpredictable and I have seen snow in every month of the year. We encourage people to bring a warm layer, such as a sweater and rain coat, when they go out for the day.

Bear Spray?

Don't stress out about trying to purchase bear spray, there is actually a place located next to baggage claim in Glacier International that rents it. There is also a place in Apgar village and in East Glacier that rent bear spray as well. We do recommend you bring it with you hiking, and we left some "how to use" instructions in our cabin booklet.

Enjoying the outdoors with little ones

The mountains and woods are an awesome place to bring your family for some fresh air and relaxation. We do caution parents to keep an eye out on their littles as we do have some larger animals in our woods. We included some information on bear safety in our cabin binder.
