We love this small shop with local artisan goods! From crafts and artwork to homemade posicles and smoked trout dip, plan to spend some time scouring through the unique local goods sold here. And while you're there, stop by Hook & Fork for some amazing waterfront nosh! The menu changes constantly, which means you can visit it multiple times during your stay and be surprised by the menu each time! Hook & Fork is a great spot to eat if you have dogs! And our young kiddos enjoy it as much as we do. This is also a great place for groups, as you may be able to snag a reservation for a little corner of waterfront all to yourselves!

Our favorite nearby towns are listed below (including Union)! Let us know if you're looking for more specific advice, as this guestbook limits our word count. :)
Hoodsport is one of our favorite day trips. We love the casual atmosphere and proximity to the Olympic National Park. We usually bookend our trip to ONP or Lake Cushman with stop in Hoodsport. Grab a coffee & ice cream at Hoodsport Coffee Co. https://hoodsportcoffee.com/ Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the Tides Family Restaurant. https://thetideson101.com/ Sip your way through a wine tasting at the Stottle Winery Tasting Room http://www.stottlewinery.com/ ... or at the Hoodsport Winery https://hoodsport.com/

Union is a small town that nestles humble homes next to luxurious waterfront resort properties. Experience the charm of Union by visiting local eateries, ice cream shops, and artisan markets. Larger stores are a 20 minute drive away. Though the Skyhouse is surrounded by trees with no neighbors in sight, it's still conveniently located within the Alderbrook Golf & Yacht Club community. The Alderbrook Resort & Spa is a 7 minute walk from the Skyhouse, and the Historic Dalby Water Wheel is just under 10 minutes walk. Twanoh State Park, just a 10 minute drive away, has shellfishing and salt water swimming. Rent a kayak at Alderbrook Resort and experience the views from the water. Our favorite daytrips from Union are: Hoodsport (20 minutes drive) and the Olympic National Park (45 minutes drive); Port Orchard (40 minutes drive); and Olympia (50 minutes drive).

Don't forget your rain gear!

You've probably heard of the infamous Pacific Northwest rain. It's the reason our landscape stays so lush & green, and it's also a great reason to pack a rain jacket and some shoes that can get wet. You won't see many locals with umbrellas, but we do have a compact umbrella at the Skyhouse you can borrow during your stay, just in case!

Enjoy a scenic drive along Purdy Cutoff Road

An easy must-see to add to your schedule is a drive along Purdy Cutoff Road. This road is most map service's secondary option for routing you from Hwy 101 to Union, as it takes *slightly* longer than the alternative Brockdale Road. However, those few extra minutes are worth ALL the views. Purdy Cutoff Road and East State Rte 106 take you along the Skokomish River, which empties into the Hood Canal just before you enter Union. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour, and there are pull-offs along the way if you want to slow down a bit. ** Watch for road closures during rainy & snowy seasons.**
