This is a local funky favorite. We love the Brian's bowl, either al pastor, fish, or of course carnitas. They also have great vegetarian options. Be prepared for a line or get there early!

This is by far the best local grocery store in Portland. Just bike or drive North. It's at Cesar Chavez and Hawthorne. Fred Meyer is also on that trajectory but if you want to great local sustainable groceries, check it out! It will be helpful if you feel like grabbing some snacks before or after you get to the house.

This is a local fave on SE 28th. Probably best to bike there vs. walk, or just drive. All locally sourced ingredients. Really unique small plate menu. Pro tip - they usually have breakfast too and nobody's there. They have another restaurant too that does Italian on Burnside too.

Very good service, very decadent and large portioned French themed brunches. Pro-tip, if you don't want to go all in on a giant omelet, they sell amazingly large and perfectly made Croissants and they make these egg sandwiches with them for only 6 or so bucks.

This vintage furniture and knick knack shop + clothing shop is quintessential Portland vibe but with decent prices and a well curated selection. Take something small home or fine a funky painting or deck out your whole house.

Everyone goes to Salt and Straw. This one is walkable and it has a giant sign on the window that says NOT ICECREAM. I think they mean it's better, richer and creamier than icecream, which is not to be argued with. Just a small scoop and you'll be in heaven. They also have signature flavors that are very unique, all inspired by Italy, it sems.

You might as well be in San Francisco at the original Boulangerie before it was bought out by Starbucks, or in Paris. It's got delicate French pastries. Don't expect to get a big brunch there but it's top quality and worth the experience.

Neighborhoods

Amazing people watching, sort of like a less bustling Haight Ashbury, lots of gift shops, and also the Powell's Bookstore Annex location is there - if you don't have time to go to the big one downtown.

This neighborhood starts at your homebase and then walk or bike east and hit the small cute Clinton strip that reminds one of Amsterdam. It's completely bike friendly and lots of young hipsters hanging out. Very friendly vibe, plus you can drop in Clinton Street Records and see some great collectibles with a specialization in disco and electronic funk.
