Alas Blancas is a great restaurant on the beach in Sayulita. It has fantastic shrimp empanadas, seafood soup, molcajetes, and fried fish tacos. They also make a good cocktail and have great service. The restaurant is clean and the staff are nice. The view of the water is good and the portions of food are size-able and not overpriced. They also can seat larger groups of 8 or more

A cool little cafe located just off the back corner of the main plaza. I like their avocado toasts and their healthy breakfast items.

Tierra Viva has fantastic coconut shrimp, sushi after five, and breakfast until 3. They are a good, all around restaurant where everyone can find something on the menu they like. Their terrace upstairs is relaxing to eat at.

City/town information

San Pancho is a short, ten minute drive north of Sayulita. You can catch a taxi in the plaza and for about 5-6 dollars you can head over there for the day. San Pancho has some great restaurants and good shopping and a quieter beach scene then Sayulita. We really like the restaurant on the beach on the right. They have great tuna tostadas.

Bar Scene

Las Sirenas is located way at the quiet north end of the beach in Sayulita. Go meet Meghan the owner and her sirenas. They are very friendly and make strong drinks and serve beer. Bring snacks or order sushi delivered while basking in the sun of one of their chairs.

Happy hour 2 x 1 at 4 pm Margaritas to knock your socks off and great french fries. The service can be slow but the views are great and the location is quieter except on days that they may have a live dj. There are cool swings too for a great photo.

Sightseeing

I love this botanical garden. The drive there is significant, maybe an hour and a half? because it is located south of Vallarta, but the drive to Mismaloya is stunning and it makes you think you are in Jurassic Park. The gardens have a restaurant and you can hike down to the river to swim. There are droves of hummingbirds and many special specimen plants.

Consejos sobre la ciudad

Formas de ahorrar

Stop at an ATM before you come to Sayulita

You will get a better exchange rate from an atm outside of town. Sayulita is a cash town so it is best to have some upon arrival.
Cómo moverse

Taxis and Uber

Taxi's are located in the central plaza and you can pretty much get a taxi at any time of the day. Also, Ben and myself can help you set up a ride with a driver. Uber has just started to take hold in the area and if you can find a driver, it will be about half the price as a taxi.

Bus to San Pancho or Vallarta

The bus is only a few dollars to get to most places.
Costumbres y cultura

Greet people on the street with hola or buenas tardes ect

Local custom is to greet each other on the street with hola, buenos dias, buenos tardes, or buenos noches. Be kind and set a good example as a visitor.
Costumbres y cultura

Walk on the sides of the roads and be aware

Locals get very frustrated when seemingly entitled tourists clog the middle of the street and slow up local traffic. The sidewalks are uneven and sometimes it is easier to walk in the middle, but just be aware of cars and try your best to clear out of the way when motobikes and cars are trying to go about their daily business.
Costumbres y cultura

Ice is safe

The ice restaurants use is bought in bags and is made with filtered water.

Beach coverups in town

Sayulita, although feels very international, is still part of a fairly conservative Mexican culture. Before walking through town, it is best to use some sort of coverup instead of being a tacky tourist parading in front of the town church and plaza in your bikini or swim trunks. If you are holding a surf board, you will probably be considered alright. If you are holding a beer, you might get some stares from a local grandmother.
