Sightseeing

If you consider yourself a beach person and you plan on visiting Zanzibar, Mtende Beach definitely needs to be added to your list. The main section of the beach is situated between two rock formations, in a big cove. It’s absolutely stunning, and one of the coolest places to watch the tides change on the island.

This is a unique opportunity to visit and swim in a cave! Entrance to the cave is $10 USD, which goes to protecting the area. Located in Jambiani village, near Jambiani Plaza and you can get there easily by car. There’s also a cultural center at the top of the cave, which means you can listen to live music, take cooking classes, or watch bracelets be made as well as visiting the cave.

If you’re interested in snorkeling in paradise, Mnemba Island is the place to do it! Mnemba Island is a small island located off the coast of Zanzibar. It’s surrounded by lovely coral reefs, which are considered a marine conservation area. It is a very popular destination for scuba diving & snorkeling among tourists. There is a luxury resort on the island which you can stay at for upwards of 1000$ a night. The owner of the property is rumored to be Bill Gates! Since it’s a private island, non-guests aren’t allowed on the island. But no matter where you’re staying in Zanzibar you can snorkel at the reefs. There’s also a sandbank that’s awesome to hang out at.

Jambiani Beach is the idyllic, low-key Zanzibar destination of your dreams — where men still bring in the early morning catch by dugout canoe and children play soccer on the beach until the tide swallows up the pitch. Where coral stone and thatch roof houses huddle close together and locals greet visitors with a friendly smile and gesture.
