Sightseeing

Alki Beach is an ideal spot on a sunny day in Seattle. Families flock to the beach during low tide to spend time exploring the small tide pools that emerge as the water in Puget Sound recedes, and they often share the beach with intrepid seagulls and crows seeking a few mussels or crabs among the rocky formations. Running parallel to the beach, cyclists, runners, skateboarders and rollerbladers can take advantage of a flat, well-maintained path and sidewalk roughly 2.5 miles in length. During nice weather, it’s also common to see Seattleites sunbathing in beach chairs and on towels while others catch rays from kayaks and stand-up paddleboards available for rent. There are also several beach volleyball nets set up for public use, and grills and fire pits are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Located on the waterfront, not far from Pike Place Market, it features great views of Puget Sound and the ferries going back and forth. Stroll the paths and admire the sculptures large and small scattered throughout the park, or sit on the many chairs and benches and admire the view. There's a nearby bike trail, and the Neukom Vivarium (a giant 60-foot rainforest log ecosystem in a greenhouse) is just steps away. Best of all, it's free! Get a dose of culture and then head down to the waterfront for some fish 'n' chips.

The Washington Park Arboretum is a spectacular urban green space on the shores of Lake Washington just east of downtown Seattle. Originally designed by the famed Olmsted Brothers firm, it was founded 1934 and contains one of the most diverse and important plant collections in North America displayed among 230 acres of woodlands, wetlands, gardens, and walking trails. The Arboretum is internationally renowned for its collection of oaks, conifers, camellias, Japanese maples, and hollies. One of the best local ski/snowboard resorts! Stevens Pass receives an average of 460 inches of snow during the season! The resort has a wide range of terrain. Steep and deep for the advanced and some mellow runs for the newbies. Fun resort!

The Summit at Snoqualmie is a personal favorite of mine. It's the closet resort to the home (about an hour and ten min drive) depending on traffic. Sometimes faster if you time it right! A quick trip to the mountains with plenty of steep terrain. Consistent snowfall and has a tubing park for the whole family to enjoy!

One of our favorite local restaurants is located in Georgetown. A 15-20 min drive south from the home. Amazing menu featuring charring meats and vegetables using techniques and flavors from Spain, Korea, Lebanon and beyond, and serving them alongside dips and housemade flatbread. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu but some of our standout favorites are the Hanger Steak, Cauliflower and Spanish Chorizo!
