Local Sights in Felton

This is my curated list of must see spots in and around Felton.
View the redwood forest in style, in an open air steam train ride. What's special: This is one of oldest and most historic railroad lines in California, originally built in 1875 it carried lumber, picnickers and tourists to the Big Trees and Santa Cruz. You'll have options: 1) Redwood Forest Steam Train is a 75-minute roundtrip ride through the redwoods. It makes one stop in the forest where you can take a short hike and have a picnic (you can bring your own food). 2) Running on the weekends (summer only), the Beach Train is a roundtrip ride from Felton to Santa Cruz beach boardwalk. You can choose different layover times at the boardwalk before your return to Felton. 3) Festive Rides - Roaring camp also offers seasonal rides during the holidays: Thomas & Percy's Halloween, holiday tree walk, holiday lights train, New year's ride and more. Note: All rides whisk you away through the scenic redwood forest. Please visit Roaring Camp online for online tickets and more details.

This is a very nice hike especially on a hot summer day because it is fully shaded and runs parallel with the creek for most of the way. This is an easy to moderate hike, about 2 miles out and back if you turn around at the lime kilns. The lime kilns have special historical significance as they were used to make lime, an ingredient used for making cement. Although covered in moss and dilapidated with time, these lime kilns once helped rebuild San Francisco after the great 1906 earthquake.

This is a great place to take the little ones to play. It's also a historical spot. The wooden covered bridge became a California Historical Landmark in 1957, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It is considered to be the tallest covered bridge in the United States, and was the main entry point for Felton for 45 years.

It's time to settle this once and for all. Is Bigfoot real? You'll have to visit this special museum to decide for yourself. Redwood Grove Loop Trail is famous and popular for viewing the old growth redwood tree forest. You can take a brochure from the visitor center or at the start of the trail and follow the numbers along the path to read about the redwoods. It's an easy 1 mile, flat, loop trail for all ages. Don't miss the one of the taller trees in the park, 'the Giant', towering over 200ft above you. It's so tall you won't be able to fit in a photo. This park features pipeline road. It is paved and bike/dog friendly and winds through the park along a picturesque creek. Hike down to the creek to practice skipping rocks. It's a special spot! There are many available hikes ranging from easy to strenuous. Don't miss the observation deck hike with a 360 panoramic view of the wilderness. Go online to parks ca gov state and search Henry Cowell, navigate to hiking for a list of recommended hikes.

This is a lovely spot to enjoy wine tasing on their outdoor patio overlooking a beautiful meadow. You can also take a walk through their gardens and make a lap around the meadow. "Appropriately named by the Hall family back in the 1880s, Hallcrest is at the crest of a small hill above the old town of Felton nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It was a retreat for the Hall family until 1941 when Chaffee Hall, a prominent business attorney from San Francisco acted on his obsession with wine and planted the first vineyard. At the time, it was one of only three wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains and the only one producing varietal wines from estate vineyards."
