PLACES TO VISIT

A seaside town built on a cape, surrounded by pine trees, that strongly resembles an island. You will enjoy the picturesque little harbor lined with popular fish taverns and bars. Visit the local market (every Thursday) where you can buy fresh fish, vegetables, fruits, honey, nuts, dry fruits as well as clothes and other products. – Bisti, a luxuriant pine wood at the edge of the promontory, a location offering a fine view and the ideal place for a refreshing long walk to the hilltop where you can see the foundations of an ancient temple. – Lively Mandrakia neighbourhood where you can enjoy your coffee or meal by the seashore. We recommend Kavos fish Tavern which has a wonderful setting by the sea and the dishes are all excellent. The fish served is guaranteed fresh, since the very friendly owner Antonis has his own fishing boat. There are also many good atverns at the main port of Ermioni. – Agioi Anargyroi monastery (11th c.).Visit the remarkable library as well as the wonderful wood-carved iconostasi in the church. – Katafyki gorge where vegetation is rich and there are impressive caves.Rock climbing possible there too. – Kappari islet, you’ll find a diving school at the cove’s entrance. Other nearby interesting destinations are Iliokastro, a place famous for its fine vineyards, ancient Eileoi with significant archaeological finds, and Thermisia village where you can visit a Venetian castle on an imposing 350m high rock. Beaches South -West of Ermioni; Godai beach is a relative newcomer onto the local beach scene. The beautiful sandy-pebble bay has always been there, but the Godai tourist facilities have transformed this quiet peaceful bay into a lively, occasionally noisy, popular tourist hotspot. Sun loungers and parasols are available at a cost, but the location itself offers everything a visitor would want. Kouverta ‘Blanket’ beach has a few basic amenities in the summer months, including a beach cantina, and offers shade on the sandy-pebble beach. There are many places to relax and swim from either side of this beach. On the road behind the beach, there’s a cafe that is open in the summer months, which has a swimming pool and children’s play-area. Lena Mary beach is a French all-inclusive hotel complex, with non-paying hotel guests being allowed on the pebble and sand beach only. Sun loungers and parasols are available. Petrothalassa beach is a sandy sand 2 km long beach with no amenities. Located at 10 min drive from Villa Erminel, it has very quiet surroundings, but can get busy at the weekends, national holidays and during the months of July and August. Kounoupi beach is a secluded sandy beach south of Petrothalassa, close to the church of Aghios Spiridon. It is a sand and small pebble beach, accessed by stone steps and used by a few local residents. Porto Heli has a narrow sandy beach with facilities for many water sports, located close to the town centre along the coastal road. Also at Vervaronda there are a number of long stretches of sandy and pebbles beach, with many amenities. Hinitsa beach is sandy and has a clean area for non-hotel guests. The shallow water is an ideal spot for young children. Sun lounges and parasols are available at an extra cost. In high summer this beach does get very busy with hotel guests. Close by, within walking distance, is a second smaller sandy beach with taverna and bar facilities. Kosta has a small clean sandy beach, with a taverna located along the beach front. Kosta is where one can catch the small taxi boats or larger ferry boat for the short sea-crossing to the island of Spetses. Beaches East of Ermioni: Dardiza beach is a pebble shingle beach where many local and visiting Greeks go. Situated alongside the main road, it has a small mobile cantina during high season offering cold drinks and hot snacks. Offers shade and seating. Makis Inn beach has beautiful paved surrounds, restaurant and other amenities. Being privately owned, all visitors must order their refreshments from the bar/restaurant which offer friendly waiter service. The beach is cleaned each morning. Porto Hydra / Plepi beach is a privately owned hotel/timeshare complex, where many people have their summer houses and timeshare properties. Many facilities are available which include swimming pool and children’s play area. Charges for non-resident guests can be expensive, especially for drinks. The beach is clean and has been awarded the European ‘Blue-flag’ in recent years. Beaches North-West of Ermioni: Lepitsa beach is popular with visitors and locals alike, especially busy during July and August. The waters are crystal clear and shallow up to 60 metres. Ideal for young children, with many shaded areas. Sun lounges and parasols are available for a small daily charge. The beach has a fish taverna and a snack-bar, which serve good food, cool drinks and ice-cream, plus other amenities. Lepitsa SunSet situated behind the sandy beach, also offers snacks and ice-cold drinks. Kilada beach is the village beach for the Kilada locals. It is located at the far end of the village, past the very large church. It is a sandy/pebble beach with free loungers and has a wonderful view of the privately owned Koronida island. There is a small cafe/bar just across the narrow road from the beach. Doroufi beach is a quiet shingle beach off the beaten track. The water is shallow for approximately 20 metres. There are no amenities on the beach, except for peace and tranquility. Further West of Doroufi are the small quiet bays and beaches of Lakkes and Thini. Franchthi beach lies opposite Kilada and Koronida island and is very quiet. It is a sand and shingle beach with no amenities, apart from a few straw parasols that offer some shade. Enjoy a walk along the coastline, as at the far end of the beach, there is a narrow footpath which leads to the famous pre-historic cave of Franchthi. Further North of Franchthi are the beaches of Aghios Ioannis and Salanti, which have remained a secret to many visitors.

A natural little harbour, almost enclosed which includes a large marina that is a must-visit spot for famous visitors and their yachts. Breathtaking nature surrounds the bay and the lacy shoreline of turquoise waters creates a surreal location that resembles a film setting. The area is perfect for those who like water sports, diving and hiking, combined with relaxation. Visit Ververonta lagoon for a springtime stroll or for a summertime dive in its waters. You will get the best sunset view as well as a clear view of Spetses Island if you visit popular Agios Aimilianos area, named after the local chapel. Throughout the year, there is a sea taxi service or a ferry connection from Kosta to Spetses Island. Cave Fragchthi is the place where the oldest human skeleton in the area of the Aegean Sea was located, near Koilada, a picturesque fishing village. Didyma cave is yet another impressive formation. Agios Georgios chapel overlooks this huge concave depression on the mountainside.

A small picturesque village/port known as the place where wooden boats have been traditionally built and its shipyard still produces reliable, good quality boats. There are numerous small beaches around Koilada where you can swim or simply enjoy the sun. Here you can buy fresh fish early morning straight from the fishermen. The traditional Daglas Taverna is well known by the locals. Among the annual festivals organized by the villagers the most famous one is the “fisherman’s fiesta” that takes place early in August. The locals with the support of the municipality organize a big drinking and eating festival with all kinds of fish and seafood, local wines, music and dancing, while occasionally famous artists are invited to perform.

Τhis tiny a port is where the small ferry and water taxis go back and forth between main land / Peloponnese and the island of Spetses. There is not a real village here just a couple of very large parking lots to accommodate all the cars from people going to Spetses.
