A family-friendly 3-day music festival with an eclectic blend of bands from Celtic rock to ska to indie music and rock. Other activities such as craft tents, puppet theatre and circus skills means there is more than just music to keep the kids amused. Check the ButeFest website for details. The festival is generally held the last weekend in July and since 2018 has been held in Ettrick Bay (NOT St. James' park as shown on the map)

Parks & Nature
Tranquil gardens with a small aviary and hothouses including cacti displays. Hidden from view, this is a bit of a secret hideaway. And getting there from our flat along the Ardencraig Woodland Walk is lovely. For that, walk up the steps on the Serpentine Road and look for the signposts.

National trust stately home. Lovely grounds and gardens including a play area with zip wires and climbing frames. The play area and the woods around the grounds are free.

It's a lot less visited than Ettrick Bay but you're bound to see seals basking on the rocks or bobbing around in the water.

Great for families with young kids as the main pool connects to the kids' pool. Rarely busy and very close to the flat. There is also a free gym outside (round the back) as well as a gym inside the facilities. In the summer there are often cheap deals for families.
