Local restaurants within a 20 minute walk

All suggestions on the list is within 20 minute walk of the apartment (all under 1km) from family friendly bistros to a special night out. Restaurants are at the top and as you work through the list, there are cafes, breakfast spots and bars. They ate not in any specific order but I have placed an Asterix next those that I really love. £££ quite expensive (above £30 pp not including drinks) ££ mid-range (£20-30pp not including drinks) £ cheap and cheerful (under £20 pp not including drinks) KFgreat for kids (kid friendly). Naturally kids are welcome at all restaurants but those marked KF are more relaxed. If you visit somewhere not on the list and you love it, please let me know. Also, if you go to one of my recommendations and it’s not good, please let me know and I will remove it.
*Omar’s Place – A hidden gem (just around the corner) Tucked away around the corner in Cambridge Street in an old converted pub. The interior was recently featured in wallpaper - Fornesetti decoration crossed with a little Italian dolce vita. Though the menu is short (tapas style) there are classics done with an interesting twist. Presentation is excellent and the whole vibe relaxed and welcoming. There is also a great cocktail list and you can just drop in for a cocktail. Very well priced. 13 Cambridge street. Sw1v 4pr https://www.omarsplace.co.uk ££; KF

*Cambridge Street and Clarendon Cocktail Cellar – Relaxed dining and cocktails (just around the corner) A café during the day, popular with the brunch crowd, and a restaurant in the evening. It’s part of the Artist Residence hotel group and, as you might expect, its design is immaculate. Colourful, soft-seat benches run around the perimeter, while the walls are adorned with fun, modern prints. The menu is adventurous British and uses locally sourced, organic ingredients, and there’s a swanky cocktail bar downstairs for afterwards. A dedicated Sunday menu also features Old Spot pork belly, rib of beef and lemon-roasted chicken alongside burgers, asparagus risotto, club sandwiches and a hot-smoked salmon hash. 52 Cambridge Street SW1V 4QQ https://clarendoncocktailcellar.co.uk/#three https://www.cambridgestreet.co.uk ££; KF

Grumbles – Casual and easy Don’t be frightened away from the outside. English bistro Grumbles is a long-standing Pimlico favourite. Their interior hasn’t changed since it started (1964), which they are proud of, giving the place a lovely, quaint feel; diners are seated in rustic wooden booths, hanging baskets swing from the ceiling, and Parisian street signs and posters hang on the wood-paneled walls. 35 Churton Street, London SW1V 2LT ££; KF

*Pimlico Fresh – Casual and easy More a café than a restaurant, Pimlico Fresh is an enormously popular spot for brunch and lunch, and offers far heartier and more filling meals than your regular café. There are plenty of stews, pies, curries and soups on offer, all of which are freshly prepared and many of which offer non-standard, creative twists on staples. *Lorne – Very British and a casual bar This restaurant in Victoria has an ex-sommelier from River Cafe and a chef from Brawn, so expect a particularly good wine list and a Modern British seasonal menu to match with it. *Hunan – Amazing Chinese Hunan is rated as one of London's best Chinese restaurants, rated extremely highly by chefs and critics alike. As the name suggests, you can expect Hunanese cooking here - so there's heat going on, but you'll be asked if you want them to dial it back, if needed. Make sure you are hungry. Kazan – Turkish upmarket Kazan is an upmarket Turkish restaurant, but the food is as generous and hearty as its less extravagant cousins. The décor is beautifully opulent, with black furnishings and plenty of red and gold accents, while the menu is inspired by the food produced in the Sultans’ kitchens from the Ottoman era, but with a distinctly modern feel. 93-94 Wilton Rd, Lillington and Longmoore Gardens, London SW1V 1DW £££

This corner of Belgravia now contains three Sardinian restaurants owned by the irrepressible Mauro Sanna, which seems rather a lot considering that the local Mafiosi are exclusively Russian rather than Sicilian. However, the mixture of eye-wateringly chic 1960s-style white decor and an impressively authentic menu, filled with relatively unusual seafood like cuttlefish and urchins, has ensured that it's even trickier to get a table at Olivomare than it is at Olivo or Oliveto. Though not cheap, prices are very reasonable considering that every dish contains dazzlingly fresh seafood - seafood that is good enough to stand on its own, without the weight of tomato and olive oil that often makes up for bad ingredients at less scrupulous Italian restaurants. Simple, unusual and faultlessly cool. *Oliveto – (17 minute walk) This is the best pizza restaurant in London, so long as you think of pizza as a pricey, fresh, light and totally authentic item of Sardinian cuisine. There’ also a line of unusual pasta sauces, featuring Sardinian classics like grey mullet roe, sea urchins and veal. The wine list is expensive but very impressive. Efficient, knowledgeable staff and plain, stylish decor ensure that the small dining room feels bustling rather than cramped. 49 Elizabeth Street London SW1W 9PP ££-£££

Olivo - A wonderful, friendly restaurant that serves splendid food in a pleasant setting. The staff are friendly and efficient, and Mauro the owner is usually roaming around chatting up the tables. The classic Italian meals here are simple cooking elevated to unusual heights; each dish is a perfectly balanced blend of the best flavours. Most of the dishes are honest versions of “old mama” recipes, but done with perfection and style. A wonderful, friendly restaurant that serves splendid food in a pleasant setting. *La Poule au Pot – Old style French bistro (17 minute walk) This French bistro would be comically cliched if it wasn't, in fact, the genuine article: the hanging baskets, cramped wooden furnishings, and rustic decor have been a Chelsea favourite since it was set up by emigres in 1962. Rabbit stews, fish soups and other bistro classics come lovingly prepared, and in suitably lavish portions. Romantic dinners are a specialty at La Poule au Pot and many lovers have bonded in appreciation of their magical steak béarnaise, fresh fish and foie gras. The vin de table is served in a magnum and you only pay for what you drink, a policy which perfectly reflects the unpretentious atmosphere. This restaurant has not changed for 30 years but why change when its already fantastic. 231 Ebury Street, London SW1W 8UT ££-£££

*The Thomas Cubitt – Upmarket stylish pub Named after the great Belgravia architect - is a perfect paneled pub, enclosed by French windows on two sides which open out on to the pretty Elizabeth Street and the huddles of tables outside, adding to the light, airy feel. The menu is focused on unfussy British country house cuisine, with occasional nods to traditional French food. Crisp crackling, slow-cooked Sunday roasts, fresh seafood, chocolate sponge, and lots of seasonal game and cheeses are the mainstays. The dining room prices are eye-watering (not surprisingly given the location, and the stunning building), but the short bar menu is excellent value, and it packs out at weekends.

*FOOD MARKET HALL VICTORIA - casual, cheap and cheerful (15 minute walk) Market Hall is on a mission to change the image of food courts in London in a beautiful Grade II listed Terminus Place. …a vast, two-storeyed temple to street food, now planted in the archways of the old Edwardian arcade opposite Victoria station. You all order from the kitchen of your choice and share a large tanble either in the food “hall” or upstairs on the terrace. 12 kitchens, 2 bars, 400 seats. Breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days. They're gathering some top names - many who have never done anything outside their main restaurants - all under one roof. It's a good way to see the real breadth of food in London all in one place. Just order your food, grab a seat and they'll buzz when it's ready. And repeat. And repeat. 11 Kitchens, 3 bars, a rooftop garden and a coffee shop. BaoziInn - Northern Chinese dim sum, with spicy influences from Sichuan. Gopal’s Kitchen - Kalpana Sugendran’s homage to his parents’ Sri Lankan restaurant of the 70s, where you can score flaky roti and Malaysian & Tamil dishes. Super Tacos - A slimmed-down offering from the Breddos Tacos team, with a focus on charcoal-cooked fillings. Koya Ko - Silky, al dente ramen from the Koya duo, with Japanese small plates. Nonna Tonda - Handmade, traditional pasta, with classics from their residency at Bar Termini. Bunshop - Stuffed buns from the team at Hackney pub The Marksman, served with builders tea. Monty’s Deli - Probably the best salt beef in London. Flank - A nose-to-tail pitstop, serving slow-cooked traditional meat dishes. Kerbisher & Malt -| Award-winning fish & chips. Enough said. Fanny’s Kebabs - An import from Market Hall Fulham, serving wraps, rice boxes and flatbreads. Squirrel - A healthy eating spot created by a couple of couples with nutritionist backgrounds. Press - A third-wave coffee shop, roasting beans from 15 different countries. THE BARS There are three bars in total, all serving draught beers (they’ve even got their own house-brew Market Helles) and cocktails. You can wash down your street eats with a gin & peach liquor-loaded Perfect Lady; a rum & sherry-laced HMS Ruby; a vodka & plum sake-fuelled Haibisukasu; or an aquavit & dandelion syrup-spiked Aegir’s Tonic, among several others. *NOVA – high end food hall 11:00 am – 10:00pm A must-visit foodie destination that is two-minutes from Victoria station (15 minute walk from the apartment) and full of eclectic and inventive brands. Loads of restaurants, many with outdoor seating and open bars. Wonderful choice of cuisines. A few of our favourites: Hai Centano -Jason Atherton’s little slice of Italy-via-New York – a detour worth making when it results in wood-fired pizzas, creamy risottos, and a secret, train-carriage style bar serving cocktails on tap. Oyster bar downstairs Vagabond - Vagabond have a noble, admirable mission – to find your wine soulmate. 240 different wines on tap – which makes for a pretty good ratio. Upon arrival, you’ll be able to charge a kind of magical wine card with your tab, which you can then swipe at the futuristic tasting stations around the bar to access either samples or full glasses of whichever wines take your fancy. There are also 9 beers available, and sharing platters from the kitchen. Bone Daddies - Bone Daddies have pretty much got their ramen formula down pat. Which, presumably, is why they’ve decided to make their lives more difficult by adding maki rolls and piping hot katsu curries to their Victoria menu – which, by some weird, scientifically inexplicable coincidence, is about to make your life much better Sticks’n’sushi - If a picture says 1000 words, it could take you a while to get through the 143-strong pictorial menu here. But if you do, you’ll be rewarded with dishes like grilled avocado with ponzu and wasabi; scallops ceviche and miso blackened cod gunkan; teriyaki duckhearts; and really quite a lot more Ole & Steen, Sticks n Sushi, Ahi Poke, Franco Manco, Shake Shack, Timmy Green, Stoke House, Sourced Market, Aster, , Greenwood, and more https://createvictoria.com/nova - Corner Buckingham Palace Road and Victoria Street
