To the north east of North Cyprus lies the 'Panhandle', or Karpas Peninsula. Alternatively spelled Karpaz, the region stretches from near Famagusta to the northern-most tip of Cyprus. The Karpas covers a substantial part of the island and extends to 80 kilometres in length and up to 20 in width. One of the most unspoiled places anywhere in the whole of the Mediterranean region, the Karpas is home to an outstanding number of birds and its northern and eastern shores have some of the most beautiful and deserted beaches in North Cyprus - in fact in the whole of the island.

Lovely sandy beach where turtles come to lay their eggs. Lovely to swim at and there were rare sea lilies - well worth visiting and spending time there. We found the best time was late afternoon or early evening. Beach generally is closed after 8 pm to protect the turtles.

An absolute must visit location - and anyway the Tourist Information Office is located here, so you'll want to pop in there anyway! If you want something to eat or drink there are plenty of spots here, but I'd suggest taking a look off some of the side alleys that lead off from the harbor, there are some delightful little cafes hidden away there.
