Thursday market is busy with local shoppers loading up very good fruit and vegetables. The indoor market has excellent meat and fish stalls, open many days of the week. Good almond cakes from the pastelleria next to the main hotel. Churros and chocolate in the bar overlooking the market recommended for recovery.

Castril has an interesting accessible gorge walk, and an impressive dam across the Rio Castril, forming lake Portillo. Upstream, close to the house, the natural park begins. The River flows down a beautiful valley from crags which offer excellent walks.
