More commonly known locally as Ostel Bay, this is our number one recommendation for a day trip! Drive through Tighnabruaich to find this hidden gem. Take a picnic and enjoy a long arc of white sandy beach. There are excellent eating places on the way home too

Right on the doorstep of Leac Na Sith you will find Castle Toward. It has a rich history and the grounds are open to the public. We often walk here with our dogs. There's lots of paths to follow and you can see the ruin of the ancestral home of Clan Lamont. Beautiful grounds to walk through and a folly to find at the top of the hill. The castle is open to the public for much of the year. Home of the Duke of Argyll.

Over on the Isle of Bute is one of our favourite coastal walks. It's not too strenuous but you will need strong footwear. It's a safe walk for children and dogs. You can walk as much or as little as you like. There's great views all the way. Rothesay has lots of places to eat. We love Helmi's! Delicious wraps and savouries. A lovely cafe for breakfast or lunch that specialises in local produce. Friendly staff and lovely views of the water. The Blairmore Stack is a hearty breakfast that will set you up for the day and there is a terrific selection of home baking. Check their site for opening times. The Blairmore is dog friendly and even serves doggy ice cream.

The Tryst is worth looking for in Dunoon. It's tucked away at the back of the main street but it's a busy, family friendly bar. We like to sit in the booths when we go for a meal and the menu has lots of interesting dishes. Our current favourites are the salmon pakora and the tattie scone nachos. Definitely worth visiting if you're in Dunoon for a meal.

This is a family friendly pub, four miles from Leac Na Sith. They serve good traditional pub grub and the steak pie is our favourite dish. The meat is slow cooked and the pastry is really light. Delicious!
